Weather and conditions in Greenland

The weather and conditions in Greenland are unpredictable. The pictures above are taken in Ilulissat with only12 hours time difference. I took the first one on my way home at night with the midnight sun, while I took the second picture the next day on my way to work. This happens when a huge iceberg that has been stuck at the mouth of the fiord has calved and broken into smaller pieces, so the disco bay and the harbor are filled with ice in no time.

When this happens, the fisherman uses a lot of time to get out of the harbor to go fishing. Sometimes they even have to take a day off or use their "office hours" to do other practical things.

This is some lucky peoples office view most of the year. Sailing in the huge nature in Greenland is a special feeling which is a must-do if you visit the country.

There are many tours during summer (June-September), but also many tourists, so make sure you book your tours in advance.

Weather and conditions in Greenland

Some days and evenings can be like the picture above, so calm and beautiful. Well, most of the summer days are like these. But remember warm clothes because even though it´s summer it can be very cold when being at the water.
The picture beneath is taken in December, so if visiting Greenland at this time, bring even more warm clothes ;-)

Weather and conditions in Greenland

Normally is summer from June, but since global warming has our seasons changed. So the last few years has the summer come a bit later while its the same with the winter. I took the picture below the first week in June when I participated in a 3-day race called "Kangia race." A very cold experience comparing to the year before where we were annoyed with the mosquitos. So please follow up with the weather cast before packing your suitcase:-)
