Me and my life in Nuuk

How is life and school for a young teenager in Nuuk the capital of Greenland?

Hi my name is Malu. I was born in Nuuk, and I am 14 years old. My school is called Atuarfik Hans Lynge.

I like living in Nuuk because nature is so close. I use my free time to spend time with my friends. I really like summer because we do so many fun things, like go on the football field, have fun at the river, or sleep n a tent without our parents.

Every year, my family and I take a trip to my grandparent's farm, called Sillisit. We take a  flight or sail with our own boat. When we sail it takes 2 days but if we are lucky it only takes one day.

In winter I like to go skiing with my big sister Niviaq, she is 18 years old. One of the best things in the winter is when it storms. I like it because when I go to school there are only a few of my classmates that come. Then we just see a movie or have fun with some of the other kids from the other classes.

One time we built a small tent with big pillows and tables. When I don’t spend time with my friends I like to draw, paint, play piano and really I want to learn guitar.

My family is Greenlandic and I learned Danish when I was small. So I can speak both languages. In 2017 I began to read English. My idols are also English-speaking so I can read and understand English, but it is difficult for me to speak.

In 2017 I was on a trip to Venice with my parents and my sister. We tried many fun things like a gondola ride, sailing with ”boat-busses”, and we also went to the beach. That place we visited did not have cars, it only had narrow streets and many bridges.

In May, my classmates and I are going to Barcelona. I am very excited about that. We are going to stay at a sports hotel. We have worked really hard to raise money for the trip so I am also excited to relax when I get home.

My family and I are going on a summer vacation to Sri Lanka.  We are going to have our own driver, but I don't know how it is going to go because I easily get carsick.
