Come along and explore the hidden corners in a world far away from everything you know. Experience the unique mixture of summer, ice and a never-setting sun!

With this tour, you will have the opportunity to fly directly from Copenhagen to Greenland and explore Ilulissat, the town of icebergs. You will fly far north, across the Arctic circle, to Kangerlussuaq and continue on a domestic flight, further north to Ilulissat.

Ilulissat means "Iceberg" in Greenlandic and there is no doubt where the name comes from, as the town is located by the mouth of the stunning Icefjord. You will see the huge icebergs quietly drift past the town, making their way to the sea. This is a place like nowhere else in the world. In the summer you will experience the never-setting sun, as the midnight sun shines brightly in the summer nights. Perfect for doing a midnight hike along one of the Icefjord paths or a midnight boat tour, sailing between the giant icebergs, seeing them in the soft light.

Ilulissat is also where the famous Danish explorer Knud Rasmussen was born. In his family's house, there is now a museum telling the story of his life and life in Ilulissat.

You will spend four nights at Hotel Arctic in Ilulissat. The daily itinerary is described below.

Daily itinerary

Day 1 - Arriving in Ilulissat - evening cruise on the Icefjord

Explore the North | Ilulissat | Disko Bay

The day will start with a morning flight from Copenhagen Airport Kastrup to Kangerlussuaq. Get a window seat and enjoy the view that will open up before you when you fly over Greenland. On a clear day, you can enjoy the view of the vast icecap - a huge white landscape. Sometimes it is hard to see if you are flying above the clouds or if it is the icecap.

When you get closer to Kangerlussuaq the view of the ice cap will slowly turn into a view of mountains, lakes and fjords. The stop in Kangerlussuaq will not be long, as you have a connecting flight to Ilulissat shortly after arrival. In Ilulissat, you will be met at the airport by a guide and there will be transfer arranged to the hotel.

In Ilulissat, you will spend the nights at Hotel Arctic - the world's most northerly 4-star hotel. After check-in at the hotel, there will be an information meeting before you will be taken on a guided tour of the town.

In the evening you are invited to a two-course welcome dinner at the hotel. After dinner, a sunset tour to the Icefjord is arranged. In the summer the sun sets very late and rises again shortly after. Depending on your time of visit, the sun might not set at all and you will experience the midnight sun. On the tour, you will cruise among the huge icebergs and see how beautifully the colours change, as the sun goes down. You will also have a late-night drink on the rocks - on real ice, from the Icefjord!

Day 2 - Eqi glacier and Rodebay settlement visit

Explore the North | Ilulissat | Disko Bay

In the morning you can enjoy breakfast at the hotel with a view over the fjord filled with icebergs.

Today a tour to the very active glacier Eqi is arranged.

This tour combines two prime attractions around Ilulissat. You will visit the small settlement Rodebay, or Oqaatsut in Greenlandic, where around 40 inhabitants have their daily life, mainly being occupied with hunting and fishing. Rodebay is situated approximately 15 kilometres from Ilulissat and is only accessible by boat in the summer and in winter, by dogsled and snowmobile. From Rodebay the tour will continue to the great Eqi Glacier located around 80 kilometres north of Ilulissat.

We will sail through the beautiful Ataa fjord. This is a great place for spotting whales, so keep your eyes out for these playful giants of the sea. Soon the magnificent Eqi glacier appears. The glacier front stretches over 4 kilometres! An overwhelming sight that truly shows the grandeur of the Greenlandic nature. We will spend an hour in front of the glacier, getting as close as safety allows. Eqi is one of the few places where the conditions allow us to get quite close to a calving glacier. The fjord is an ever-flowing stream of icebergs in all shapes and sizes. The tour takes 7 hours, coffee, tea and a meal is included.

When you get back to Ilulissat you can have dinner at one of the many restaurants, that offer a wide range of both local and international food.

Day 3 - Ilmanaq settlement visit and Disko Bay whale safari

Explore the North | Ilulissat | Disko Bay

Enjoy the breakfast at the hotel before today's adventures start.

On the program for the day, a visit to the settlement Ilimanaq combined with a whale safari in the Disko Bay is arranged.

Ilimanaq is a small village south of Ilulissat with around 50 inhabitants. To get there we will sail through the mouth of Ilulissat Icefjord, past the icebergs. The sailing time can vary depending on the ice conditions. In Ilimanaq you will have a while to explore the village, where some of the old buildings recently have been nicely restored. Take your time to enjoy the quiet village life and the view of the fjord. After a while, it is time to continue the adventure on the Disko Bay. This is the prime summer-vacation spot for humpback whales. These magnificent sea creatures travel to the Disko Bay for the feasting on large groups of krill and small fish. Humpback whales are the most common, but you will be able to see humpback whales, minke whales, and fin whales. The captain will help you identify the many whales residing in the bay.

The tour takes around 6 hours and includes lunch.

Day 4 - Hike to Sermermiut Valley and dinner

Explore the North | Ilulissat | Disko Bay

Today you are going on a guided hike to the Sermermiut valley, beautifully located with a view over the Icefjord. This is an easy hike, suitable for most people. You will drive by mini-bus as far as the road go and find a good path, leading to this historical place. On the tour, you will be led by a guide, who can tell you everything about the Inuit people, who used to live here, and the surrounding nature. At the Sermermiut valley, you will see the remains of the turf huts - with the view it is no wonder, people wanted to settle here. The tour takes around 3 hours.

As the tour only takes 3 hours, you will also have some time to explore more of Ilulissat on your own. This is your last full day in the town, so make sure you have gotten all the souvenirs, you want to bring back home and have seen everything you wanted to see. Have a walk around town, or maybe sit down at a café and write some postcards to send back home.

In the evening a 3-course farewell dinner is arranged at Hotel Arctic. After dinner, you can sit for a while and enjoy the view from the terrace. Don't forget to pack your suitcase though, as you are leaving tomorrow!

Day 5 - Time to say goodbye

Explore the North | Ilulissat | Disko Bay
