Experience history and nature on this great trip when in Qaqortoq.

Sailing with Qaqortoq Water Taxi is a nice and easy way to get to some of the top attractions close to the city. You book the trip and Water Taxi will pick you up on one of two spots on the harbor - just like a Yellow Cab.

The green area around Qaqortoq is full of interesting historical sites. This is the area where the vikings led by Eric The Red settled when coming to Greenland in year 985 - they named it Austurbygd, which means the Easter Settlement. On the same ground the first Christian church in the country was built in 1300. Today you can still see the remains of this church.

Hvalsey is also said to be home to one of the Inuit legends. The story goes that this area was the ground for an open war between the Norse chief Ungortoq and the Inuit leader K'aissape. According to the legend the Inuit people led a huge attack on Hvalsey and burned down the Norsemen inside their houses. However the chief Ungortoq managed to escape with his family, but was caught near Cape Farewell after a long pursuit.

All the historical sites are only one part of the trip, because in addition you at the same time get to see the beautiful nature with the bright green, grassy hills taking all different sizes and shapes - some steep and some soft.

Safety is of course important to Qaqortoq Water Taxi and the crew on the boat "Odin" is experienced in sailing in the area.

Please note that the price is for chartering the whole boat for this excursion. This will include one to six passengers. When booking you will register one person and following choose how many extra passengers are on the trip. It is important for the Captain to know how many people you will be on the trip and that you fill in the names on the passenger list.
