Icefjord Hike and Kapisillit Settlement Visit | Nuuk

Want to experience the remote arctic wilderness on foot, but don’t have the time to hike extensively? Combine a short hike at the furthest reaches of the Kapisillit Fjord with a visit to the last small settlement near Nuuk that still maintains a more traditional way of life on this full-day trip into the Nuuk Fjord system.

Your open boat adventure takes you 2.5 hours from Greenland’s capital into the Kapisillit arm of the Nuuk Fjord. The entire route is lined with the spectacular mountains and provides no shortage of photo opportunities as you make your way into the remote backcountry via the same method of transportation that local hunters use.

At the end of the fjord, your experienced captain will dock the boat and your wilderness guide will lead you on a 45 minute hike to an incredible view of the Nuuk Icefjord.  Unwrap your lunch while enjoying enviable views of icebergs that have recently broken off the nearby glacier and are now starting their way down the fjord towards the open ocean.

But the adventure doesn’t end there.

Before returning to Nuuk, you will visit Kapisillit itself for a rare glimpse into daily life in one of Greenland’s small settlements - the last in the Nuuk Fjord.  There you will attend a traditional celebration called a Kaffemik (which typically involves a lot of coffee and cake) before finally making your way back to the city.

Rug up against the chill arctic air for this multi-activity adventure and reserve your place by selecting your preferred departure date above.
