When you are in Southern Greenland you should also visit some of the cozy settlements that are scattered around on the shores of the fjord systems.

Sailing with Qaqortoq Water Taxi is a nice and easy way to get to some of the top attractions close to the city. You book the trip and Water Taxi will pick you up on one of two spots on the harbor - just like a Yellow Cab.

Igaliko is a cozy farm settlement located between the fjord and the rolling green hills, where the higher snow-covered mountaintops peek over. In the summer this is a beautiful place to visit with its bright green fields covered with colorful flowers and peaceful grassing sheep.

Apart from the beautiful nature and todays farm-life it is also a place packed with history. This place is where the Norsemen around year 1100 founded the Gardar Cathedral for the bishop. Today you can still see the ruins of this impressive place.

Later this became home to some of Greenland's first modern agriculture, when the Norwegian farmer Anders Olsen in 1782 settled down here with his Greenlandic wife, Tuperna.

From the shore it is a 45 minute walk to the settlement, but in these beautiful surroundings that is easily done.
