The town inherited its name Ilulissat, meaning icebergs, due to its rich ice fjords, calving out from the Sermeq Kujalleq Glacier. Ilulissat is situated at the stunning mouth of the 40 kilometer long Kangia Ice Fjord. The Ice Fjord surrounding the city, has forced Ilulissat, with its beauty, to claim the frozen bodies of water as its trademark, attracting visitors from all over the world. Ilulissat Ice Fjord is a part of the world heritage list of UNESCO, due to its azure colossal ice sculptures, hiding vanished ages deep within its core.

But Ilulissat is much more than just the Ice Fjord, as it is also the active explorers paradise. On your adventure, you can go on an optional snow shoe hike or cross country ski the mesmerizing slopes surrounding Ilulissat.
