Kelly Ville is a small settlement, situated approximately 12 kilometres from Kangerlussuaq. The research facility is run by the International Center for Geospace studies and was constructed in 1983. The remote situation of the research facility, will wake your curiosity as you venture out of Kangerlussuaq’s dirt roads.
The station was relocated twice, before settling in Kangerlussuaq. The station is used to study the upper atmosphere with its huge antenna. At Kelly Ville you might be lucky to meet one of the 5 employees with different nationalities, that are stationed there all year round, while scientists and grad students come by for short periods.
It is quite interesting to see the facilities and learn about the research that is going on. The appearance of the station is also very fascinating, as it looks like research facility located on Mars with its desert surroundings.
