Information about Ice Sheet

The Greenlandic ice sheet is the second largest ice sheet in the world. It’s 1.730.000km², and the thickness is usually over 2km, and over 3 km at the thickest part. It covers roughly 80% of Greenland's surface and if it were to melt estimates suggest that sea level would rise with approximately 7 metres.

It’s an amazing experience to look at the massive ice sheet of Greenland and see/hear how powerful nature can be, and witness the climate change.

There are different ways to see the ice cap as well as from different places. You can either sail with a boat, fly with a helicopter or hike. In Kangerlussuaq, you can drive to the ice sheet.

There are also some ice fjords that are packed with majestic icebergs that have calved from the ice sheet. You can see the ice fjords in different places in Greenland, like in Ilulissat, Nuuk and Uummannaq.
