Qeqertarsuaq was established in 1773 by the whaler Svend Sandgreen. With 850 inhabitants the town is situated on the Disko Island. Before other towns on the coast where established, Qeqertarsuaq used to be the capital of north west Greenland.
In the area you will be able to see columnar basalt rocks, that lets us believe volcanoes used to exist. The grounds are unlike any other place, very fertile. Due to the fertility of the lands, it is the only place in Greenland to grow large amounts of Garden Angelica and other herbs.
Qeqertarsuaq area is a place like no other, with its dozens of hiking trails, boat tours and even hot spring bathing. It is the only place in Greenland, where you will be able to dog sled underneath the midnight sun, whilst scouting for whales in the horizon.
For the adrenaline rush loving, kayak into the veins of the surrounding fjord system and explore raw and untouched nature.
Neighbouring the town, is the Lyngmark glacier. The neighbouring glacier create good conditions for all year dog sledding.
