World Of Greenland – Ilulissat

Ilimanaq Lodge is established on the intention of giving something back to the local community in Greenland. Tourism contributes in a positive way to this area by implementing locals as staff members and as tour guides on excursions. We offer a wide range of excursions around Ilimanaq. Our catalogue consists of both cultural settlement hikes and more physical activities, such as glacier walks with ATV transportation. As for overnight guests in Ilimanaq Lodge, our excursions are also available from Ilulissat with daily shuttle boat. Terms and payment policy It is always a good idea to read the pages that are written in small prints. The under mentioned terms are the basis of an agreement between you as a customer, and us as tour-operator. We therefore hope that you will read the conditions before you book your excursions. World of Greenland has a product-insurance through IF-insurance. World of Greenland only use approved boats by the Danish Søfartsstyrelsen for passenger sailing, and only boats with valid insurances. Likewise only helicopters with all necessary permits from ‘Statens Lufthavnsvæsen’ and compulsory insurances are used. GUARANTEED Some excursions are offered as guaranteed. These is excursions are guaranteed in connection to minimum number of participants. This means that even though minimum number of participants are not reach on the excursion, we will not cancel it. We cannot guarantee in regard to conditions such as weather, technical issues etc, see below. CANCELLATIONS World of Greenland reserves the right to cancel arrangements on the following conditions: too few participants, bad ice-conditions, technical problems on boat or helicopter, social tasks (such as Search & Rescue-flights, ambulance flights and in connection to a search, changes due to passenger flights), bad weather and in any situation beyond the control of World of Greenland, that will prohibit the execution of the excursion in a safe manner. It is respectively the captain of the helicopter and boat or World of Greenland who decides if the weather permits the execution of the excursion or not – not the customers. If World of Greenland cancels an excursion, because of the reasons mentioned above, the full amount paid for the excursion will be refunded to the customer, including any possible fees paid to World of Greenland. MORTGAGING AT CANCELLATIONS When excursions are cancelled because of the reasons mentioned above, cases can occur when someone with a guaranteed ticket doesn’t go, while others do. There is not only made prioritizing of when the ticket is bought, as other considerations can enter into it. It is World of Greenland alone who on the day decide who is to take part in the component excursions. SHORTENED EXCURSIONS Excursions can, of various reasons, be shortened or changed on the way. It can be the weather, snow conditions on the trail, ice conditions etc. The route of the sledge tour, or length, is sometimes changed because of the weather, the trail, ice-conditions etc. It is only the driver of the sledge who decides how the excursion gets through and subsequently no compensation or refund is given for changed or shortened excursions. Hikes can likewise change because of fog or other kinds of weather which doesn’t allow the completion of the hike or planed route. It is the guide on the hike alone who decides this. Subsequently no compensation or refund is given for changed or shortened hikes. Helicopter and airplane trips can be changed in route and length because of unforeseen weather conditions e.g. Fog, strong wind etc. It is only the pilot who decides this. The helicopter trip can also be shortened in case of social task (such as Search & Rescue-flights, ambulance flights and in connection to a search) and any situation beyond the control of World of Greenland that will prohibit the execution of the excursion in a safe manner. If the Helicopter trip has been reduced by a number of minutes, the missing/lost minutes will be refunded, if it cross 25% of the trip’s length altogether. There is no refund for missing landing and ground stop. Boat trips can be changed in route and length depending on the weather and ice-conditions. It is the captain alone who decides this. Subsequently the lost minutes of sailing will be refunded, if this cross 25% of the excursion altogether. There is no refund on any lacking/missing time on land. IF YOU AS A CUSTOMER WISH TO CANCEL, CHANGE AND HAND OVER RESERVATIONS When the excursion is paid for and confirmed, it is not possible to cancel, change or hand over the ticket. We recommend you to buy a health insurance and travel insurance so your excursions are ensured in case of you, your travelling companions or nearest family are getting ill. World of Greenland don’t take the responsibility for delays in the journey to Ilulissat in case of irregularity at tour operators. Should you be delayed in your journey to Ilulissat, which means you can’t participate in a bought excursion, we ask you to contact World of Greenland as soon as possible. We will in every single case try to move the excursion, but there is no guaranty of this being possible. TICKET REQUIRED Participation in excursions isn’t possible without tickets. The ticket is personal and cannot be used by others. Bring valid picture identification issued by proper authorities such as passport, driver license etc. MINIMUM NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS Certain excursions have a given minimum number of participants. The given number is written in the certain excursions. We do, in few cases, exceptions and go through with fewer participants. Cancellation of excursions because of too few participants can happen up until an hour before the start of the excursion. If this should happen, we will offer something alternative. If this is not possible, we cancel and refund the excursion. In addition to this, no claim for compensation can be done against World of Greenland. DISMANTLING TIMES We reserve the right to change the written times on the ticket. We therefore recommend that you contact World of Greenland immediately after your arrival to Ilulissat to get an updated program for the day. TRANSPORT TO AND FROM EXCURSIONS In general all excursions start and end at the World of Greenland office. We provide transportation between World of Greenland and all excursions. For excursions returning after 8 pm and the excursion “Eqi boat trip – with or without stay” we provide transportation to World of Greenland, Hotel Hvide Falk, Hotel Icefiord or Hotel Arctic after return. NAMES The given names of the participants given to World of Greenland have to agree/be consistent with the names written in the respective authority issued picture ID. EMAIL When booking an excursion at World of Greenland you provide us with your e-mail address. You yourself are responsible for informing us about possible changes of your e-mail account. DIFFICULTY LEVEL World of Greenland require that you have thoroughly read the excursion description of the ordered excursions. Including that the level of difficulty is matching your physical achievement. You yourself are responsible in case you are not able to complete an excursion due to your physique. There is no refund or compensation, and any possible extra charges caused by interrupting the excursion will fall upon you as a participant. Please pay special attention to the dog sledge excursions. These excursions are carried out in a varied uneven terrain, and therefore are prone to sudden movements and bumps. Consequently, a healthy back is necessary in order to participate on the dog sledge excursions. Please read about the waiver of liability in connection to this, which can be found further below. NO RIGHT TO WITHDRAW There is no right to withdraw from experiences and excursions bought at World of Greenland – no matter if it is purchased using the internet, through telephone or by personal appearance at World of Greenland. The common right to withdraw doesn’t count on e.g. arrangements on accommodation, transport, provisioning, recreational activities, if it emerges on the agreement on which day or in which period the arrangement is done. Therefore withdrawals are following the mentioned cancellation rules. PRIVACY POLICY When you have reserved an excursion at World of Greenland we gather following information about you: names and gender and selected excursions on all participants and also the following information about the payer; address, e-mail and means of payment. The participant will be passed on to Air Greenland if the person has bought a helicopter trip as this is required by the airline authorities. Likewise the participant will be passed on to the shipping company Disko line, if one has bought a boat trip. In addition the information given to World of Greenland will not be passed on. Information is kept safe, so it is possible after the reservation, and up till the dismantling of the tour, to log on with the chosen password and reprint ones tickets and invoice. Your data will be saved 5 years, since it is required that all accounting records are stored for 5 years. World of Greenland is responsible for your personal data is not passed on to any other than the above mentioned parties. As registered you always have the possibility for insight and you can raise an objection towards being registered in accordance with the rules of personal data. LIABILITY TO PAY COMPENSATION World of Greenland renounce any responsibility in proportion to cancelled excursions and compensations to expected experiences. Furthermore we also renounce any liability to pay compensation in proportions to delays which means that the participant lose connection to other transports. Furthermore World of Greenland limit the liability to pay compensation for the aviation transporter that are relevant for the sum/amount laid down in the Aviation law of 1960 with later additions. And for sea transport referring to the sum/amount laid down in the “Maritime law” and Athens convention in regard to sea transport. WAIVER OF LIABILITY Before the excursion takes place, World of Greenland reserves the right to demand that our guests, purchasing the excursions directly at our shop, to sign a waiver of liability, based on our business conditions. For guests that purchase the excursion using the web page or by e-mail, the waiver of liability is approved upon payment. If you book the excursions on behalf of others, we require that you have the authority to approve of these conditions and the waiver of liability for all participants of the group. COMPLAINTS Any complaints are to be stated during the outing so the unsatisfactory conditions/circumstances can be tried to be solved at once. They are also going to be directed to the staff of World of Greenland immediately after the ending of the tour/trip. If you can’t solve the complaint, a written complaint is to be sent no later than 3 weeks after returning from the trip. All proceedings against World of Greenland are to be brought to the municipal court of Ilulissat in accordance to the Greenlandic judicial system. PRICECHANGE AFTER RESERVATION At World of Greenland we have to reserve the right to after reservation, to increase the price because of changes in the conditions of purchases, cost of transport (including the price of fuel, taxes, charges or fees like airport-, landing- or take-off fees), foreign exchange quotations or other circumstances that we as organizers can take into account beforehand. SPECIAL TERMS FOR RESERVATIONS AT ILULISSAT HOSTEL The reservation is valid when payment is done and confirmation received for accommodation on Ilulissat Hostel. It is possible to cancel the reservation up until 24 hours prior to expected arrival; hereafter a reduction corresponding to the amount of the first night will be withdrawn. Special terms can apply in specific reservations, in such cases the terms will be informed when the reservation is made. CREDIT CARD FEES/TRANSACTION FEES There is no refund on credit card fees if the customer chooses to cancel the excursion. If world of Greenland cancel the excursion, the fee will be refunded. INSURANCES World of Greenland has the compulsory product insurances. But it doesn’t cover insurance of the participant’s personal belongings. Should personal belongings be damaged or lost on the excursion it is at one’s own expense or insurance. We therefore recommend that you write an insurance that cover these cases before leaving the native country. OTHER CONDITIONS We have done our best to avoid misprints in our catalogues, brochures, advertisements and in our website, but of course it could slip. Therefore we make a reservation for misprints in these printed media. Any demand against World of Greenland is to be brought to the municipal court in Ilulissat in accordance to Greenlandic judicial system.

It was amazing! To paddle in this cold water close by such majestic creation as icebergs was a breath-taking experience. Our guides Ivan and Peter were great too. It took our group (10 persons) too long to get into the water. So they extended our trip to make sure that we definetely got our 1,5-2 hours paddling, besides getting in and out of the water. On the water we got some hot drinks and some fun facts about the area.

We were expecting single kayaks, since there stood nothing about double kayaks on GTG’s website, where we made the booking. My friend was not comfortable with shared kayaks, so she quit last min. before getting into the water. Later we got a refund for her ticket.
The description said we had a minimum of 2 hours in the water, this was more like 1 hour and 30min.
We saw a lot of nice icebergs and had a kind guide with us.
I think that the description promise a little to much, compared to what you get. But nevertheless a really nice location to go kayaking.
