A full day of dogsledding in the stunning landscape of Ilulissat. Have you always wanted to go on a dogsled into the wilderness of Greenland? Then this is definitely something for you. Dogsledding has and still is a crucial means of transportation for the Inuit people.

Back in the days, it was a necessity for survival, as it allowed the hunters to go far and beyond to hunt seal and other arctic animals. Today, however, it is important for the locals to keep traditions alive.

This trip allows you to understand how knowledgeable the musher is and he will teach you what the sled can do, about the dogs and their behaviour along with the dedication it takes to train Greenlandic dogs as a pack. An astonishing cultural experience that combines the stunning landscape of ice and snow in the safe hands of the local musher.

On this journey, you will get to learn to control the dogs and sled and travel through the untouched tundra. After going through the safety and you have gotten an understanding of the sled and dogs we will start heading out for our journey towards Oqaatsut, a small village of approximately 37 inhabitants.

The start of the journey will be the most impressive and thrilling experience, as you sit back and let the dogs and musher take you across frozen lakes, hillsides and impressive scenery. The settlement is about 20 kilometres away from Ilulissat, and the trip towards Oqaatsut is a spectacular sight, as you cross frozen fjords and see sky-high mountains in every direction.

Arriving in the charming little village, you will get to observe the daily life of the hunters presumably getting their dogs and sled ready for a day out in the winter landscape. Use the opportunity to greet the friendly locals whilst you enjoy the fantastic view all around you. Walk through the settlement and breathe in the fresh air whilst you enjoy the peacefulness that overcomes the village.

If the ice conditions don’t allow us to go to Oqaatsut we will climb a mountain to get a stunning view of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Ilulissat Icefjord. But no matter the destination we guarantee a spectacular trip through the arctic tundra of ice and snow.

Don't miss out on this unique Inuit experience and come along for a day of dogsledding in Greenland. See availability by pressing ‘Choose a date’ and book your adventure today.
