Sail into the wonderful wilderness of the vast east coast and experience 2 massive glaciers side by side. We’ll venture into the astonishing Arctic landscape, sailing among icebergs of incredible shapes and sizes getting as close as safely possible to the Karale and Knud Rasmussen Glacier.

The journey will start with a visit to the famous Bluie East Two, in an area named Ikateq. This place is often visited by tourists and locals as it used to be an airbase during the 2nd World War. The US military used this airfield to refuel their planes and as a medical station for the wounded.

They used the area to navigate for search-and-rescue operations and, very importantly, to improve weather forecasts. Today it is mostly known as an open-air museum mostly due to the abandoned facilities, fuel drums and vehicles, and has been an occasional political issue in the US, as it is basically left behind trash, however, it is still a very special insight into our history during the war.

After a short tour around the wreckage we will head on to Sermiligaaq Fjord. An enchanting area of jagged mountains and two glaciers colliding. Sermiliqaaq means “The Beautiful Glacier Fjord” and certainly lives up to its name.

The two glaciers Karale Glacier and Knud Rasmussen are both elegant and massive giants trying tp dominate each other. A place where you with almost certainty will see one or both glaciers calve, a an unimaginable sight, with sounds of thunder as the ice crack off and hit the ocean.

The views are astonishing but the sound is like nothing else, thrilling and scary, but you will be in safe hands with the sailor’s knowledge and experience.

Depending on the conditions of the ice, we will go ashore nearby the Knud Rasmussen Glacier and enjoy our packed lunch.

A chance to hike around is possible before we will be heading back to Tasiilaq.
