Come aboard this 3-hour excursion to the abandoned village Kangeq and the Island of Hope ! This excursion should not be missed by those visiting Nuuk, who are eager to learn about Greenlandic history or nature.

Kangeq is a former whaling village, that was abandoned in the 1970s, due to the industrialization of Greenland. Ever since the village has been deserted, and is today a standing proof of the colonial history, where you both can immerse yourself in pre-colonial history and Arctic coastal nature.

Your tour starts by the harbour, from where you will be welcomed aboard our closed cabin boat. From the colonial harbour we will head out Nuuk fjord, and upward the coast. The tour from Nuuk to Kangeq has a duration of 30-45 minutes. En route, there are great chances for seeing humpback whales, auks, seals and icebergs.

Once you are out of the fjord, you will sail through a narrow passage and enter a small bay, where the village is hidden. There are several attractions in the small town, that you can explore. Explore the cores of the houses from the colonial period, that display the modest and harsh living conditions of early 1900, search for the ancient Inuit ruins or see the traces of how the once active fishing factory is now used by local fishermen.

Next destination of the day, brings us to sea again. We will set the course towards the Island of hope, where you will be able to see where the colonialist of Greenland first settled. The island of hope was established by the missionary Hans Egede before Nuuk was colonized.

Put on a warm hat and bring your camera, for this out-of-fjord adventure to Kangeq and the Island Of Hope! Check the booking availability by pressing ''Choose a date'' above.

Best tour I have ever experienced! Nuuk Water Taxi fulfilled our day to the fullest, our captain served coffee and biscuits and showed us around. If you are visiting Nuuk, it is a must to visit Kangeq, it's like travelling back in time!
