Day 1
Greenland bound
We fly with Air Greenland from Copenhagen to Nuuk, a 4.5-hour journey leading to an 8-day winter adventure.
After checking in at Hotel Hans Egede Express, there will be an information meeting about experiences, dining, and Nuuk in general.
Today, you can explore Nuuk. Despite having only 19,500 residents, it feels like a vibrant city with cultural and educational institutions, concerts, theaters, museums, and sports facilities. Enjoy hiking, skiing, sailing, yoga, and more.
On this day, you will also go on a boat trip to Nuuk Fjord. This trip offers stunning views of the rugged mountains and beautiful icebergs. We might even spot some wildlife and get closer to the famous Sermitsiaq mountain.
In the evening, try one of Nuuk's many wonderful restaurants.
Day 2
Exploring Nuuk and Northern Lights Adventure
Spend today at your own pace, enjoying Nuuk's exciting experiences. Look forward to a city tour and a Northern Lights snowshoe trip.
The city tour includes a visit to the Greenland National Museum, showcasing artifacts from various periods in Greenland's history. We then explore Kolonihavnen, with its 17th and 18th-century houses, Hans Egede’s house, the Mother of the Sea sculpture, and the Hans Egede statue. Next, we visit ‘Kalaaliaraq,’ the traditional market for local fish, seals, and reindeer, followed by Greenland’s government buildings and the Cultural Center Katuaq. The tour ends here, in the heart of Nuuk, offering great shopping and other activities.
After dinner, gear up for a Northern Lights snowshoe trip on Quassussuaq Mountain. Equipped with snowshoes and headlamps, we hike to the 430-meter peak. Away from city lights, the Northern Lights shine brighter, and you get a stunning view of Nuuk below. The guide provides warm seating, and we enjoy the view and a hot cup of tea with headlamps off.
Day 3
Discovering Sisimiut and sled dogs
The trip continues to the coastal town of Sisimiut. Upon arrival, the hotel bus will take you to the 4-star Hotel Sisimiut, your comfortable base for the next five nights. After check-in, attend an information meeting with the local guide, who will share details about the town, the area, and dining options.
The tour begins at the old heliport, once the main gateway to Sisimiut until 1998, now a dog kennel and youth clubhouse. We then visit the local market, bustling with freshly caught fish and game. Passing the town hall, we see original hunting and fishing houses still standing today. The tour continues to the town’s highest vantage point for an impressive southern view. Finally, we explore the old town center, where colonial-era buildings from the 1700s now house the city museum.
For dog lovers, this is a must-do experience. Learn about sled dogs and their history in Greenland. You can touch and take pictures with the dogs, but always check with their owners first, as they are working animals, not pets.
Day 4
Winter hiking and safari adventures
Enjoy a day in Sisimiut, with nature at your doorstep and culture and shops in town. Hotel Sisimiut also offers a range of excursions and outdoor hot tubs. Today includes two excellent adventures.
Winter hiking
The Winter Hiking Trip focuses on snowshoeing, suitable for all ages and experience levels. Guided by an expert, you will learn how to use snowshoes and rods.
We head towards the town’s waterworks at the end of the Arctic Circle Trail, then move along the mountainside to Lake Nilliasup, one of the town’s drinking water sources. Crossing the frozen lake, we trek across a moraine shaped by ancient glaciers. We may spot polar foxes and snow hares, and see traces of glacial movements on the mountains.
At the moraine’s end, we enjoy a breathtaking view of the David Strait, the archipelago, and the Polar Circle area south of Sisimiut, taking a break for refreshments and photos. On the return, we cross another moraine, pass Sisimiut’s cross-country ski trails, and stop at the Frozen Scouts’ Lake, a winter activity hub.
Winter safari
The Winter Safari takes you into the stunning mountain landscape on a “monster trailer,” a large sled pulled by a snowmobile. With several stops for photos and nature appreciation, this trip offers a clear contrast between civilization and wild nature.
Seated on the big sled, you will experience Sisimiut’s hinterland, pass through the winter playground, and stop on a plateau to enjoy views of Sisimiut and the Davis Strait. This easy, enjoyable tour requires nothing more than holding onto the sled, making it accessible for everyone.
Day 5
Dog sledding adventures
Experience the authentic activity of dog sledding, a vital part of Greenlandic culture. For thousands of years, hunters and their dogs have worked together in this harsh, beautiful landscape. As you sit on the sled, dressed warmly, you will enjoy the serene scenery interrupted only by the sled driver’s commands.
The journey takes you to the foot of Niujarfik, a natural stop before a steep climb northeast of Sisimiut. After a short break for photos and untangling leads, you will return. Note that the price does not include polar clothing and boots, and each sled accommodates two people. For a longer dog sledding adventure, arrange with the hotel during your stay.
Day 6
Snowmobiling in the backcountry
Today is all about snowmobiling. The tour is perfect for beginners, this tour starts with basic snowmobile driving skills on a training track. Once comfortable, you will embark on the hotel’s most popular snowmobile trip into the hinterland, featuring long stretches, moderate inclines, and scenic mountain paths.
The hilly terrain offers exciting descents and climbs. The highlight is the spectacular view of the David Strait and the rugged winter landscape of Qerrortusup Majoriaa. There will be a longer stop for snacks, hot drinks, and plenty of photo opportunities.
Day 7
Final day in Sisimiut
It is the last full day in Sisimiut and you can do as you please!
You can take a walk in town, shop for souvenirs or spa in the hotel!

What to bring
Warm winter wear. The outer layer must be proper winter gear which typically has lots of insulation and is windproof. Think ski jacket and pants if you come from a warmer climate.
Warm hat, thick windproof gloves, buff or scarf
Insulated winter boots
Sunglasses and sunscreen - snow is very bright and even the winter sun can cause sunburn
Camera with extra batteries (the cold drains the batteries faster)
Day pack
Water bottle
Additional Information
Depending on the availability of flights to Greenland, a flight supplement may apply.
Trips to Greenland are always subject to weather conditions. Delays and flight cancellations can happen. We therefore strongly recommend that you do not book onward international flights directly after your trip to Greenland. Give yourself at least one extra day to make an international connection. We also recommend purchasing travel insurance that will cover any expenses should your flights be delayed or cancelled due to bad weather.
The airlines that fly to Greenland only allow 20 kg of checked-in baggage. If you go over this limit, there is a fee (often strictly enforced) for the extra weight.
It is important to bring cash in the form of Danish Krona to Greenland. While credit cards are accepted in larger locations (eg hotels, supermarkets), they may not be accepted elsewhere. Foreign currency is often not accepted.
Our customers are the foundation of Guide to Greenland so we make great efforts to provide you with the best possible service. We are located in Greenland and cooperate with everyone involved in the Greenlandic tourism industry. We are therefore perfectly placed to quickly react to changes or new wishes you may have to ensure you have the trip of a lifetime.
BOOK EARLY The earlier you book your trip, the better the prices will be, and the more likely you will be able to book the tour you want for the dates/times you want.
Package tours can be sold out more than half a year in advance (note that Guide to Greenland does not include international flights in packages, except where indicated from Iceland or Denmark).
Day trips may sell out closer to your arrival date, but for popular destinations, certain dates/times can also sell out months in advance. We recommend that you secure all of your experiences by booking them well in advance of your trip.
CANCELLATIONS All cancellations must be made via e-mail.
