Catch your own dinner and have it prepared by top-quality chefs deep in the Nuuk Fjord on this getaway to Qooqqut.
Fishing is the biggest industry in Greenland and a very popular casual activity amongst Greenlanders. So why not do as the locals do and fish for your dinner as you explore the Nuuk Fjord.
Our journey will take us past the iconic Sermitsiaq mountain as we head further into the world’s second-largest fjord system. Along the way, we will stop at our favorite fishing spots to try our hand at catching our dinner. Usually, it is pretty easy to catch cod and redfish, so don’t worry – you won’t go home hungry! Our captain is also on hand to give assistance, so even if you’ve never fished before, you are still likely to land something.
Once we’ve caught our fish, we will continue our relaxed sail and dock in the former settlement of Qooqqut. Now a summer vacation area for locals, this tiny village is home to “Qooqqut Nuan” – a 4-star restaurant and where we will deliver our fishy haul.
Here you can choose to be involved in the process of cleaning, filleting, and cooking the fish. Or leave it in the hands of the professional chefs and head out to explore Qooqqut. The area has a fascinating geology and is rich with Greenlandic herbs such as angelica, arctic thyme, and berries. There are also ancient ruins of the Thule Inuit and Norse settlers in the area.
Once our food is prepared, we will dine in style at the restaurant with an incredible view of the mountains and the fjord. Then, bellies full, we sail back to Nuuk.

First time in my life try fishing with the line, was so fun and easy! Guide help me all the way explained what we need to do. After that we sailed to amazing small local restaurant in middle of nowhere and they cocked our fish 3 different ways. Delicious and fun tour!

Very fine trip. The guide, Malik, was an excellent storyteller and knew a lot of facts about Greenland, which he wasn’t shy to share. The fishing was great and fun!
The food was ok, but, in my opinion, too little emphasis on the fish and too much deep fried.
The taste was fine, though.

A wonderful trip in Goodthaabfjord but we were looking forward to be able to fish more (we only got to fish one person at the time, for a short while for two persons in our family of four. Our kids were really looking forward to the fishing but now they had to stay beside waiting…)
The restaurant at the Qooqut Nuan just has an amazing view and the place is 👍👍👍 Our fish was prepared in varioys ways, first as a great fish soup as a starter. Then as different main courses that were both high and low (toi much fried fish on the table).
But overall a very nice trip 😊

Wonderful excursion! Our crew was friendly and helpful! We had a chance to stop and do some whale watching on our way to the fishing spot. The fishing spot was close to a beautiful waterfall on a nearby mountain. We caught plenty of cod and enjoyed a nice dinner and conversation at the restaurant in Qooqqut.

Great crew, lots of fish and a freshly cooked dinner. Saw whales and Caribou. Would have loved the fish to be just grilled or sashimi. Overall though, I would highly recommend.😃

The “Catch N Eat” experience in Greenland is more than a tourist activity—it is a profound cultural and ecological immersion that embodies the intersection of Indigenous knowledge, sustainable living, and cross-cultural connection. From the moment we set out on the frigid yet crystalline waters, our small group of eager participants was invited not only to witness but to partake in a tradition as old as the Arctic coastlines themselves: fishing for survival, for sustenance, and for shared memory.
The catch—healthy specimens of cod and vibrant ocean perch—was abundant and exhilarating to reel in. These moments, filled with laughter, encouragement, and gentle competition, reflected the deeply human joy of harvesting one’s own food. Yet what elevated this outing into the realm of scholarly significance was the shoreline demonstration that followed. There, an experienced local fisher expertly filleted our catch in front of a rapt audience, narrating the process with insight rooted in generations of lived experience. It was a tactile education in anatomy, resourcefulness, and respect for the land and sea.
The walk from the shore to the seaside “tester aunt” (tasting tent) was as breathtaking as it was symbolic—a literal and metaphorical journey from nature’s raw offering to communal nourishment. The landscape was a textbook of glacial geology and Arctic flora, while the social environment was a case study in emergent kinship. Newfound friendships were forged not through convenience but through shared awe, and gratitude.
This excursion merits academic attention as a model for experiential, land-based learning. It holds potential as a pedagogical template for sustainable tourism, intergenerational teaching, and the preservation of Arctic lifeways. In short, Catch N Eat is not simply a tour—it is a living classroom.
