City Walk | Nuuk
Want to quickly get your bearings when you arrive in Nuuk and learn all about the city at the same time? This City Walk is one of your best introductions to Greenland's colorful capital!
First stop is at the Colonial Harbour in the oldest part of Nuuk, your guide will give you an overview of the National History Museum where you will find artefacts from all periods of Greenland’s history. The collection is so large and diverse, it is impossible to cover it all on this tour, so you will want to note the location of the museum for a further visit.
From there, you will stroll past other buildings and statues in the old section of Nuuk, including Hans Egede’s house, the “Mother of the Sea” statue, and the beautiful Annaassisitta Oqaluffia Church. Your guide will explain their role in the history of Nuuk and Greenland before leading the way to the open-air market where freshly caught fish, seal and reindeer are sold.
After exploring the catch of the day and learning a little about the importance of hunting in Greenland, you will head up into the modern center of Nuuk past Greenland’s Parliament building. This area is quite a contrast to where you started in the Colonial Harbour and your guide will take the opportunity to discuss more recent developments in Nuuk and Greenland.
The tour will finish at Katuaq - the cultural centrepiece of the city.
