Snowshoe hike and restaurant H8 | Oqaatsut | Disko Bay

Put on your warmest outerwear for this 6-hour snowshoe hike around the remote settlement of  Oqaatsut! Your tour will be departing from Ilulissat and includes all the best of winter adventures in Greenland: sailing, snowshoe hiking, and a rewarding lunch!

Oqaatsut is a small settlement of approximately 30 inhabitants, located 20 kilometers north of Ilulissat. Oqaatsut is located far within Disko Bay and is known for its spectacular beauty and colorful wooden houses. The settlement is surrounded by the immense and pristine nature of frozen tundra, which provides the perfect conditions for snowshoe hiking!

From Ilulissat harbor, you will get transported through the beautiful wintery ocean with drifting icebergs passing by on their journey from Ilulissat Icefjord.

Due to the harsh and cold winter in Greenland, the water around Oqaatsut harbor will be frozen. For this reason, the boat will drop you off by the edge of the sea ice and you will get the awesome experience of walking on the sea ice. The host of H8 will help you safely across the frozen bay and into the settlement if needed. It is completely safe to walk on the ice and something that you will never forget!

When you arrive at Restaurant H8, the host will equip you with a  pair of snowshoes, and once you are ready your journey into the incredible wilderness begins. Now it is only you and nature.

Our guide will show you the best viewpoints, and tell you stories of life in the settlement and how the settlement came about. After some hiking, you will stop for a well-deserved break, where a warm beverage is served by your guide.

After approx. 1-1,5 hours, you will return to Restaurant H8, where you can warm up.

If you are up for it, will there also be time to check out the beautiful settlement, on your own.

Finally, you will get served lunch or dinner at the cozy restaurant. Here you can enjoy a gorgeous view over Oqaatsut bay, before sailing back to Ilulissat.
