Experience the pristine Greenlandic wilderness on horseback on this 8-day multiday trip departing from Narsarsuaq, South Greenland.
By embarking on this ultimate riding adventure into the vast farmlands of Erik The Red’s Fjord you will immerse yourself in the solitude and beauty of the Greenlandic wilderness.
South Greenland is renowned for its landscapes of icebergs, snow-capped mountains, milky blue fjord, and lush tundra - a handful of the most pristine natural wonders of Greenland, that you will experience on horseback.
The journey includes 5 days of riding. Here you will be riding through the rugged farmlands on the back of a well-trained and sure-footed Icelandic horse, that can conquer some of the most difficult terrain.
While you ride in the pristine wilderness, you will also dive into the history of the area, as remains from Norse Viking and Inuit settlements are scattered throughout the spectacular fjord.
Days not spent riding, you will engage in activities such as sailing to the nearby Qooqqut Glacier, a showing of the Greenlandic national costume, storytelling about life in the Greenlandic countryside, and participating in a 1-hour guided tour of Norse-Viking ruin reconstructions.
All accommodation, meals, activities, and transport for the 8 days are included in the price.

Day 1
Upon arrival at Narsarsuaq Airport, report your arrival at the Blue Ice Explorers in the reception at the airport. They will make sure of your transport to the harbor and sail you to the village of Qassiarsuk. From here, a guide will welcome you!
Your luggage will be driven to your hostel and you will be shown directions to the hostel (the harbor is close to the hostel). A guide will show you your room upon arrival at the hostel and you will be informed what time dinner will be served.
You will have time to settle in and relax after your flight!
Qassiarsuk is formerly known as Brattahlid, as norse-Vikings used to inhabit the settlement until they suddenly disappeared during the 15th century. Today it is home to approximately 40 inhabitants, that live off the land.
The settlement is known for its charm, rugged hills, sheep, and tiny dirt roads - a scenic and idyllic setting!
Day 2
The second day starts out with breakfast in the dining room. After your guide will match you with one of the Icelandic horses, that will be your companion during your stay in Greenland. To ensure that you are comfortable with your horse we will do a short and slow-paced ride.
After the intro of 3 hours, lunch will be served in the dining room, and for the rest of the day you are free to do whatever you want! Dinner will be served at 18:00 followed by a delicious dessert.
Day 3
Today you will be embarking on a two-day adventure to the farm of Tasiusaq.
To reach the farm you will be riding through 17 kilometers of extraordinary terrain. Rugged hills, tundra, and mountains for you to enjoy from horseback. Halfway through we will enjoy a nice lunch in the mountains. Before reaching the farm we will ride through Qorlortup Itinnera, a small farm set in a valley of lush mountains with a small creek flowing through.
Once you have uncovered the 17 kilometers you will be arriving in Tasiusaq, which is beautifully situated next to a small bay, where icebergs, from a nearby glacier, gather - creating a picturesque setting for your night stay.
Take advantage of the spectacular scenery. Head down to the water, hike the surrounding landscape, or relax by the farm.
Day 4
Your fourth day brings you on a 22-kilometer day tour to see an astonishing glacier and its countless icebergs.
You will ride through the tundra, head to the beach for a ride, and have lunch in front of the glacier. From here we return to Tasiusaq, where we will have dinner at 18.00 followed by dessert.
Day 5
You will be heading back to Qassiarsuk from Tasiusaq. After uncovering 10 km, you will be back just in time for lunch, which you will be enjoying at the hostel.
Lunch is followed by a showing of the Greenlandic National Dress. The national dress is an impressive piece of work. The beading itself can take up to a hundred hours and some of the skin pieces are almost impossible to retrieve.
Dinner will be served at 18:00 followed by dessert.
Day 6
Your horse deserves a day of rest. For this reason, you will be heading out on a boat tour of 3-4 hours, depending on the wind, weather, and ice!
After breakfast, you will head to the harbor, where you will come aboard our ship and sail to the nearby Qooqqut glacier. The glacier is a spectacular sight, and sailing in between the many icebergs is an experience in itself.
Arriving back in Qassiarsuk you will be eating lunch and then after, you will be heading out on a guided tour to learn more about the Norse Vikings and their former settlement.
Dinner will be served at 18:00 followed by dessert.
Day 7
You are getting back on horseback. Today's ride takes you to the farm of Inneruulalik to have lunch with the family, who runs the farm. Here the family and your host will tell you about life as a sheep farmer in South Greenland.
