Ilulissat Water Safari is owned by locals. We want to show our town in very best way. We are a part of the history of Ilulissat. We are going to tell you about our forfathers, ourselfs and our children. Ilulissat, formerly Jakobshavn or Jacobshagen, is the municipal seat and largest town of the Avannaata municipality in western Greenland, located approximately 350 km (220 mi) north of the Arctic Circle. With the population of 4,541 as of 2013, it is the third-largest city in Greenland, after Nuuk and Sisimiut. The city is home to almost as many sled-dogs as people. In direct translation, Ilulissat is the Kalaallisut word for "Icebergs". The nearby Ilulissat Icefjord is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and has made Ilulissat the most popular tourist destination in Greenland. Tourism is now the town's principal industry. The city neighbours the Ilulissat Icefjord, where there are enormous icebergs from the most productive glacier in the northern hemisphere. Well, these are the facts everybody tell. Our guides will tell you the unwritten stories from their own life experiences in Ilulissat.

We booked this tour 4 of us, and we were alone with a captain! It was so special as we saw whales, beautiful amazing icebergs and there were no other people on the boat! We felt like VIP!
Karl was so friendly and just amazing local guide, we would definitely recommend to purchase this tour!

This tour was the highlight of our Ilulissat vacation. Karl our guide met us at the harbor and provided flotation suits for safety and warmth before taking us on a beautiful tour of the icefjord. Karl grew up in Ilulissat and still lives there which means he has far more knowledge of life there than the Danish guides many tour companies bring in. He is easily able to navigate the fjord, identify whales at a glance, and find seals from a far. The experience can’t be beat by other companies plus the flexibility of selecting our our tour time was outstanding.

I had an amazing time on my day tour to the Eqi glacier!
The boat was comfortable and the food they served was simply outstanding. I loved the danish fish and remolade sauce and even asked the guide to write the names down so I can have it again in the future.
The day trip was about 9 hours and we spent 2 hours in front of the glacier, so we could enjoy it a lot!
It was a beautiful sunny day and we could see and hear the glacier calving… what an experience!
I totally recommend this tour and guide to Greenland to anyone coming to Greenland!
