Day 1
Arriving in Kangerlussuaq & sightseeing tour
You will fly from Copenhagen to Kangerlussuaq with Air Greenland. As you approach Greenland, the sight of the endless icy desert indicates what you can look forward to.
Flight times (local time)
Direct flight Copenhagen – Kangerlussuaq with departures at 9:00 am
Please note that departure times are subject to changes.
Kangerlussuaq is beautifully situated between soft hills and close to the Ice Sheet and the city will welcome you with a blast of fresh coldness.
After arrival, you will be accommodated at Polar Lodge, located very close to the airport terminal.
After check-in, the guide arranges an information meeting.
It is now time to experience the old airbase on a guided tour by bus, giving you insight into the area’s history and astonishing nature.
In the evening, we recommend dinner at the hotel restaurant or at Restaurant Roklubben, beautifully located by a lake just outside Kangerlussuaq (book locally).
Day 2
Dogsledding in Kangerlussuaq & Northern lights
Today you will join 2 hours dogsledding expereince! You will change to warm sealskin clothes and try an authentic travelling way in Greenland. You will share your sledge (up to 3 people on the sledge). Imagine enjoying the views and silence of the Arctic winter. You are traveling in the season of the amazing northern lights, so you must embrace the chance to see this phenomenon! In the evening, we dont miss a chance to see Northern lights! We will drive away from Kangerlussuaq into the darkness, hoping to see the dancing green Northern lights appear in the sky.
Day 3
Point 660, stepping on inland ice!
The area around Kangerlussuaq is the only inhabited place in Greenland’s inland. All the other towns and settlements are located by the coastline.
The climate is continental with very stable weather conditions which is why the Americans chose this location for their base. If you go for a stroke in the neighborhood, you will still see remnants from that time.
Then we will go on a bus and head towards Point 660 and The Greenland Ice Sheet. That is the second-largest ice sheet in the world and covers incredibly 80 percent of Greenland. During your 5-hour trip you will have the possibility to step on inland ice and enjoy the views of the "ice desert".
Along the way, you will have the possibility to see tundra wildlife, raindeers, musk ox, and other animals. It is impossible to predict if you can get close to the animals or look at them from the distance. Bring your binoculars, so you have a better chance of experiencing these incredible animals and other wildlife.
Day 4
Flying to Ilulissat!
Today, your journey continues with a scenic flight from Kangerlussuaq to Ilulissat. The flight takes less than an hour, and upon arrival, a bus will be waiting to ensure a smooth transfer to Hotel Arctic.
ILULISSAT CITY TOUR:
After check-in, you can join a guided city tour. That is a perfect introduction to Ilulissat. Your guide will show you the main sights, including the charming old town, Zion’s Church, and the local museum.
In the evening, a welcome dinner will be served at Hotel Arctic (excluding beverages).
Day 5
Sermermiut walk in Ilulissat
Today you will have some time to explore the town on your own.
You will also join a walk to the Sermermiut settlement by the Icefjord!
A historic site just south of Ilulissat has been inhabited for over 4,500 years. Although snow covers the remains of ancient settlements, the stillness, light, and surrounding scenery are striking. Your guide will share stories about the different Inuit cultures, their traditions, and their adaptation to Arctic life. The hike offers breathtaking views along the UNESCO-listed Icefjord, where massive icebergs drift.
We also advise visiting the beautiful Icefjord Center, located nearby.
Day 6
Sailing among the icebergs in Ilulissat
Highlight of Ilulissat- cruising among huge icebergs in Ilulissat! You will board a comfortable boat with close, heated cabin. You can enjoy the views through the windows or step outside; it is up to you!
This definitely will be a breathtaking experience.
