Glamping by a calving glacier One of the trip’s highlights is a 2 nights spent in a wilderness tent at Glacier Lodge Eqi, overlooking the magnificent Eqi Glacier. Watch in wonder as chunks of ice break off and crash into the sea from this 6-kilometer-wide glacier.
The trip takes place from June to August, Greenland’s summer at its finest. Day 1
From Copenhagen to Nuuk
We will fly with Air Greenland from Copenhagen to Nuuk, a 4½-hour flight that begins your Arctic adventure.
After settling in at Hotel Hans Egede Express, your guide will host a welcome meeting. Then, you will have time to explore Nuuk and get a feel for the city at your own pace.
Though small, Nuuk is lively and full of culture, with concerts, museums, and plenty of outdoor activities. The city stretches 10 kilometers and offers something for everyone, from hiking and skiing to shopping and dining. You will get to know the heart of Nuuk on a city tour on your first day.
City tour in Nuuk
We will visit the Greenland National Museum, explore the historic Colonial Harbor, and see landmarks like Hans Egede’s house and the Mother of the Sea sculpture. We will also stop by Kalaaliaraq/Brættet, the local market selling fresh fish, seals, and reindeer. The tour ends at the Greenland Cultural Center Katuaq, right in the center of Nuuk.

Day 2
Boat trip to Qooqqut – catch your dinner
At 3:30 PM, we will set off from Nuuk on a boat trip to the fantastic Qooqqut Nuan’ Restaurant, but this will not be your typical dining experience.
We will sail through Nuuk’s impressive fjord system, the second-largest in the world. In the Qooqqut Fjord, we will stop the boat to fish for our dinner — no concerns about freshness here!
Qooqqut sits in a stunning valley surrounded by mountains as high as 2,000 meters. One of Nuuk’s most renowned chefs spends the summer here, preparing incredible meals. For dinner, we will enjoy the fish we have just caught.
Unusually for this far north, trees are scattered behind the restaurant. You might want to take a short hike and capture some great photos while the chef prepares your meal.
After dinner, we will head back to Nuuk, arriving around 9:00 PM.
Day 3
Fly to Sisimiut – Greenland’s second-largest city
Today, we take a scenic one-hour flight to Sisimiut, Greenland’s second-largest town, home to about 5,500 people. As we fly along the coastline, you will be treated to breathtaking views of the water and surrounding mountains. Sisimiut’s colorful wooden houses are nestled in a rugged, rocky landscape, making it a beautiful and unique destination.
Arriving in Sisimiut
After checking in at the charming Hotel Sisimiut, a local guide will warmly welcome you and introduce the town, sharing tips on the many exciting excursions available during your stay.
Cultural and historical tour of Sisimiut
You will then embark on a guided tour that will give you a real feel for the history and culture of Sisimiut. You will explore this Greenlandic town, where traditional life and modern conveniences coexist — seeing sled dogs sunbathing on the rocks, passing by drying fish stands, and discovering stylish boutiques. The tour will take you through the local market, Kalaaliaraq/Brættet, and past the town hall before visiting the old colonial buildings, now turned into a fascinating museum.
Hike into Greenland’s past
After exploring the modern side of Sisimiut, you will hike to Tele Island (Sallinnguit), an ancient settlement inhabited for over 4,000 years. Here, you will see Inuit ruins alongside modern telecommunications structures. Your guide will share stories of the Inuit people who lived here long before Europeans arrived. As you explore the island, you will take in stunning views of the town and the surrounding ancient hunting and fishing grounds.
Day 4
Boat tour to the abandoned settlement of Assaqutaq
Today, we will sail to the abandoned settlement of Assaqutaq, with a chance to spot whales along the way. Assaqutaq is now used as a summer camp for local schools and is a popular spot for Sisimiut residents who come to hunt seals in the summer.
As we walk through the settlement, we will pass by the old fish factory, the summer camp, and the charming old church. The waters around Assaqutaq are a playground for whales (humpback, minke, and fin whales) so we may be lucky enough to see one during our visit.
The evening will be yours to enjoy as you wish.
Day 5
Afternoon flight to Ilulissat + sailing among the icebergs
This afternoon, you will fly north from Sisimiut to Ilulissat.
Welcome to Ilulissat
Upon arrival, you will be transferred to Hotel Arctic, beautifully situated with a perfect view of the Icefjord. After check-in, you will attend an information meeting where you can learn more about the town and the various excursions available. Then, it is time to set sail!
Sailing among the icebergs
In the evening, we will embark on a magical boat trip through the Icefjord, where the midnight sun casts a stunning glow on the massive icebergs. These giants, some reaching up to 100 meters above sea level, are stranded at the mouth of the fjord. Almost every visitor to Ilulissat takes this unforgettable journey between the icebergs, which form from the over 40 million tons of ice that flow into the fjord each day.
Make sure to dress warmly or rent sealskin clothing, as it can get quite chilly on the water, even in summer. This will be an evening to remember!
Day 6
Exploring Ilulissat’s rich heritage and natural wonders
Cultural History Town Walk in Ilulissat
While it is true you can explore Ilulissat on your own, a guided cultural-historical city walk offers a much deeper insight into Greenland’s rich culture and history. Starting your journey with this perspective will add depth to all your experiences in Greenland.
Ilulissat, meaning "icebergs" in Greenlandic, was founded in 1741 and is now Greenland’s third-largest town with over 4,500 residents — and 2,500 sled dogs! During this walk, your guide will share stories about the town’s history, Greenlandic culture, and life 300 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle. You will visit the harbor to meet the fishermen, explore the market 'Brættet', and pass by Knud Rasmussen’s birthplace and the old wooden church, Zionskirken.
You will also have the chance to admire the ever-present ice and learn about its significance to Greenland.
Sermermiut settlement and the Icefjord Center
Just south of Ilulissat lies the ancient settlement of Sermermiut, set against a backdrop of stunning icebergs. For 4,000 years, various Inuit cultures called this area home, and remnants of their presence can still be seen today. As you walk through the site, you will hear stories about life before Europeans arrived, see ancient ruins, and even touch the permafrost. The short tour takes you to the Nakkaavik viewpoint, also known as the Old Woman’s Gorge.
Day 7
Whale watching – A close encounter with giants
Whale watching is one of those experiences that stays with you forever. The sheer size and grace of these magnificent creatures will take your breath away. Greenland’s waters are home to about 15 different whale species, and getting close to them is a thrill you will never forget.
During the summer months, you are most likely to spot humpback, minke, and fin whales. These gentle giants roam all over Disko Bay, sometimes swimming near the city, in the Icefjord, or further north near Arveprinsens Ejland.
We will head out on a fast Targa boat, allowing us to cover more ground and increase our chances of a great sighting. Thanks to our close connections with local fishermen, we often know the best spots to find the whales.
And for a truly special perspective, you might even catch a glimpse of these majestic creatures from a high vantage point!
Day 8
Sailing to Eqi Glacier and Staying at Glacier Lodge Eqi
One of the most unforgettable experiences in Greenland is a boat trip to the magnificent calving Eqi Glacier. Located 80 kilometers north of Ilulissat, the glacier flows into the fjord, and by boat, we can get close enough to watch huge chunks of ice break off into the water — all from a safe distance. Our ice-safe ship will anchor about two hours before the glacier, giving us the perfect vantage point to witness this awe-inspiring event. A delicious lunch will also be served on board.
The boat ride to and from Eqi Glacier takes between two and five hours each way, depending on the boat used that day.
Around 2 PM, we will arrive at Port Victor, where you will be warmly welcomed by the camp guides at Glacier Lodge Eqi. After settling into your wilderness tent, coffee and cake will be served, and the guides will provide practical information about your stay.
Our tents are equipped with quality beds, modern interiors, and a private patio overlooking the Eqi Glacier. The tents are not equipped with water or electricity. Shared shower and toilet facilities are located just next to the tents.
Hike to the Delta
A short walk from Glacier Lodge Eqi, we will visit a nearby river to take in the stunning views of the river delta and Eqi Glacier. It is the perfect spot to sit back, sip a cup of coffee or tea, and soak in the beauty of this remote landscape.
Wake up to the breathtaking views of the Eqi Glacier and enjoy a peaceful breakfast before heading out for a hike to the glacier’s moraine.
From Glacier Lodge Eqi, we will hike around the small lagoon at the southern end of the glacier, where flocks of geese often gather during the breeding season. The hike takes us up to the moraine, where we can peer into the massive cracks in the glacier, just a few meters away. From this vantage point, you will also have a stunning view of the glacier’s front and witness its impressive calving.
Day 10
At around 2:15 PM, the boat will depart back to Ilulissat, following the same scenic route. Along the way, coffee, tea, and cake will be served, and keep your eyes open—you might spot seals or even whales on the journey home.
The day will end with a farewell dinner at Hotel Arctic, where we will reflect on our incredible experiences together.

Day 11
A Memorable Farewell to Greenland’s Wonders
As your flight departs from Ilulissat to Nuuk, take one last look at the breathtaking Ilulissat Icefjord before continuing on to Copenhagen, where you will arrive in the evening.

The group for each departure is a maximum of 12 people. (Day excursion group size can vary as we use local tour operators in Greenland.)
Trips to Greenland are always subject to weather conditions.
Delays and flight cancellations can happen. We therefore strongly recommend that you do not book onward international flights directly after your trip to Greenland. Give yourself at least one extra day to make an international connection.
We also recommend purchasing travel insurance that will cover any expenses should your flights be delayed or canceled due to bad weather.
The airlines that fly to Greenland only allow 20 kg of checked-in baggage. If you go over this limit, there is a fee (often strictly enforced) for the extra weight.
It is important to bring cash in the form of Danish Krona to Greenland. While credit cards are accepted in larger locations (eg hotels, and supermarkets), they may not be accepted elsewhere. Foreign currency is often not accepted.
There is a 3-hour time difference between Denmark and West Greenland.

Package tours can be sold out more than half a year in advance (note that Guide to Greenland does not include international flights in packages, except where indicated from Iceland or Denmark).
Day trips may sell out closer to your arrival date, but for popular destinations, certain dates/times can also sell out months in advance. We recommend that you secure all of your experiences by booking them well in advance of your trip.

Loved the itinerary, it was perfectly planed we visited local few local towns and see everyday life there.
Our favorite part on the tour was staying at Eqi lodge in front of the glacier, it was amazing to see glacier calving and also some wild foxes came to say hi!
