Day 1
Arrival and overnight on the Greenlandic Ice Sheet
Your journey kicks off with an early morning arrival in Kangerlussuaq (usually before 10 am), where you will check into Hotel Kangerlussuaq. Nestled within the airport, this hotel offers a mix of modern comforts, warm hospitality, and picturesque views of the surrounding mountains.
After settling in, enjoy a sandwich lunch provided by the hotel. At noon, gather at the Polar Lodge to meet your guide and hop into a specially equipped 4WD vehicle, featuring panoramic windows for prime viewing. Your drive to Point 660, the portal to Greenland's majestic Ice Sheet, will take about an hour. This route offers potential sightings of local wildlife, including musk oxen, Arctic foxes, and ptarmigans.
Upon reaching Point 660, your glacier guide will conduct a safety orientation and distribute essential equipment like crampons. It is crucial to wear sturdy, waterproof hiking boots with ankle support for a secure fit with the crampons, as they are not suitable for flexible footwear like sneakers.
You will then embark on a two-hour trek across the breathtaking icy expanse to your campsite. Once there, participate in setting up your 3-person tents and the larger 12-person dining tent, and help gather fresh water.
Once the camp is ready, unwind with a warm beverage and some sweet treats. Weather permitting, a brief excursion nearby may be possible. As evening falls, convene in the communal tent for a robust trekking meal and an evening of storytelling under the enchanting glow of Greenland's Midnight Sun.
Day 2
Ice Sheet exploration and Greenlandic culinary delight
Start your day with a nourishing breakfast in the warmth of your tent. Afterward, embark on a stunning 3-4 hour hike back to Point 660, where you can enjoy magnificent views and take memorable photos along the frosty paths.
Once you arrive at Point 660, enjoy a leisurely lunch before you board the 4WD vehicle for the picturesque drive back to Kangerlussuaq. Back at your accommodation, you will have some time to unwind and freshen up before heading out to Restaurant Roklubben in the evening.
Situated beside a tranquil lake, conclude your day with a delightful Greenlandic buffet at the restaurant. Indulge in a variety of local specialties such as fresh shrimp, halibut, musk ox, and reindeer. Dinner is included, though beverages are available for purchase.
After your meal, a bus will take you back to your hotel, where you can relax and reflect on a day filled with adventure and culinary discovery.
Day 3
Â
Serene kayak adventure
Begin your day leisurely with a satisfying breakfast, followed by a slow morning to relax and soak in the tranquil surroundings. Enjoy a light sandwich as you prepare for an afternoon of kayaking on Lake Ferguson, where you will witness the breathtaking Greenlandic wilderness up close.
Kayaking offers an unmatched way to immerse yourself in nature, providing access to areas only reachable from the water's edge. Propel yourself in complete silence, enhancing the tranquility of your adventure. Our tours take advantage of the serene midday sun, often allowing us to be the only ones on the water.
For over 4,000 years, Inuit have used traditional kayaks for travel and hunting. Our certified guides, equipped with modern safety gear and stable double kayaks, make kayaking accessible for both beginners and experienced paddlers. Throughout the tour, your guide will share insights about the local wildlife and the history of Kangerlussuaq, capturing photos of your journey included in the tour price.
After about 2 hours on the water, you will return to Kangerlussuaq for a relaxing two-course dinner, rounding off a day filled with natural beauty and peaceful exploration.
Day 4
BBQ at Russell Glacier and departure
Start your day with a delightful breakfast at the hotel before checking out and setting off on a new adventure to the majestic Russell Glacier, complete with a Greenlandic BBQ!
Travel through the rugged Arctic terrain in a comfortable 4WD vehicle equipped with large panoramic windows, perfect for viewing the stunning landscapes. As you traverse Arctic tundra, desert-like valleys, and semi-barren plains, keep an eye out for wildlife including musk oxen, reindeer, arctic hares, and possibly even a polar fox.
Upon reaching Russell Glacier, savor a barbecue lunch of Greenlandic specialties against the backdrop of the glacier's imposing ice wall. During the Arctic summer, you might witness the spectacular sight of ice calving from the glacier, accompanied by thunderous sounds echoing through the valley.
This unforgettable five-hour tour concludes with a return to Kangerlussuaq, where you will enjoy a two-course dinner at the Musk Ox restaurant in the hotel. As the day winds down, it is time to bid farewell (departure for flights at 20:00) – until your next adventure!
