Your first day of this 15-day voyage sends you to Greenland.

You fly from either Reykjavik (Iceland) or Copenhagen (Denmark) to Narsarsuaq.

In Narsarsuaq your guide will welcome you and do a short briefing of the first day’s itinerary.

We set off from Narsarsuaq harbour by boat, and travel through the Tunulliarfik fjord to our camp by the Qaleraliq glacier.  En route, there are good chances of spotting various wildlife and enjoy unspoiled fjord scenery.

The camp is beautifully located on a sandy beach with an impressive view, overlooking the Qaleraliaq glacier brink. You will be sleeping in a dome-shaped tent with room for four persons, next to the glacier, and while staying here, you can enjoy the dramatic sound of calving glacier.

Wake up to the impressive view of glacier steeply rising into the backdrop of mountains and icebergs drifting by your tent. In the early morning, there are good chances of spotting caribou.

After breakfast, you will be accompanying your guide on a mountain hike of 400 meters ascend. On top of the mountain, you will be rewarded with a panoramic view of the Greenland Ice sheet and nunataks (mountain peaks) breaking through the glacial landscape.

The afternoon is at your leisure, but for an afternoon activity, we recommend that you either try your luck with fishing or gather berries and mushrooms (from mid-August).

Your third day in Greenland brings your feet on top of the Greenland Ice sheet.

By zodiac boat, you will travel along a glacier brink to find a spot, from where you can ascend onto the Ice Cap for an expeditionary glacier trek.

In this area, there are three different glacier branches of the ice sheet. The branches where once, one big glacier front, but due to the rising temperatures of global warming the glacier branch has divided into three.

In the company of a professional mountain guide, you will ascend onto the glacier with crampons. While exploring the crevasses, drains, caves and seracs of the ice, your guide will tell you all about the characteristics of the South Greenlandic glaciers he/she has observed.

After we have finished the glacier-trek, we travel back to camp for an overnight stay.

Your stay in the camp by the Qaleraliaq glacier has come to an end, and your 15-day voyage through South Greenland brings you to the small town of Narsaq. We will transfer to Narsaq by Zodiac boat.

Upon arrival, we will check-in to Kayak Hostel, where we will stay overnight. We recommend that you freshen up with a shower, before strolling through town to see a handful of attractions. Stop by the museum, church or the leather shop. Stack up on snacks for the next couple of days in the local supermarket.

Dinner can be enjoyed in one of the few local restaurants around town.

Continuing your voyage through South Greenland, we will travel down coast through the outer skerries. Travelling through the outer skerries gives you a taste of Greenland’s diverging climate – in fjord, you will experience luscious green hills, and along the coast, you will see a climate rather impacted by the strong winds and cold temperatures through bare rock and reed.

Our mission of your fifth day in Greenland is to reach Uunartoq Island, where you can bathe in thermal hot springs. En route, we will stop by Saarloq – a small village only inhabited by 20 people. The village is located on a small island and overlooks the Labrador Sea. Visiting these small communities offer great insight to what life is like off the Greenlandic coast.

After a short stop in Saarloq, we enter a complex fjord system that will lead us to Uunartoq Island. From the boat you can enjoy views of the settlement Alluitsup Paa and a place known for being inhabited by whales. Keep an eye out for the whales playing hide and seek between the waves!

By the afternoon we arrive on Uunartoq Island, where you can bathe in the islands thermal springs while enjoying views of fjord landscapes and icebergs.

We will stay overnight on the island, and sleep in tents.

Your sixth day in Greenland brings you to Tasermiut Fjord. Before entering the fjord, we will stop by the settlement Tasiusaq – a beautiful settlement situated in a small bay with views of Tasermiuts unglaciated mountains. The settlement’s history reflects the battles, that the Inuits fought against the harsh arctic nature. Approximately 140 years ago, the inhabitants of the settlement starved to death. The settlement was not inhabited again until the 1930s, where the descendants of the dead inhabitants rebuild the town.

After a town walk, we will start a day trek from Tasiusaq to Kuusuaq river. You will trek through the most amazing scenery of lake, mountain, tundra and rivers. The trek follows the Saputit track, a pathway created by the locals of Tasiuaq that go fishing in the large Tasersuaq lake. Tasersuaq is definitely a highlight of Tasermiut that should not be missed, the lake is beautifully circumscribed by mountains. After a day of trekking, we arrive by the mouth of the Kuussuaq River.

Here we spend the night in tents. If you are up for it and have remembered to collect a fishing license, we suggest that you fish in the river for salmon.

We will stay wilderness and sleep in tents.

The 7^th day of your south Greenlandic voyage takes you through Tasermiut Fjord by boat to several highlights of the fjord.

By boat you will navigate along the large Tasermiut mountains, Ulamertorsuaq, Nalumasortoq and Ketil. Its quite the impressive sight to look up to these giants, as the mountains are 1830 meters to 2054 meters tall. Each mountain has an iconic shape: Ulamertorsuaq is known as the Arctic version of Yosemite’s El Captain, the Nalumasortoq mountain is shaped like an open book and Ketil is shaped like a pyramid. These mountains are any mountaineers dream to ascend.

We will sail to the bottom of Tasermiut, to visit the large Tasermiut glacier, that descends into a backdrop of 1400 meters and is 3 kilometers wide. Glaciers are the wonders of the Arctic, and this is no exception.

From camp, we will do a hike of medium difficulty to the base of Nalumasortoq to overlook the surrounding fjord landscape from a birds view. From the viewpoint, we can see the south side of the Ketil and the north side of Ulamertorssuaq. The granite mountain is 2054 meters high and is shaped like an open book. The sides of the book are two mountain peaks that each are 900 meters tall.

The rest of the day is at your leisure, but you can join your guide for fishing and mussel picking.  You can also rest in the tent while enjoying the spectacular view of the sun setting with its golden colours covering the west side of the Ulamertorssuaq.

We trek to a viewpoint on the Ulamertorssuaq mountain. Due to the mountain’s outstanding rocky walls, the mountain has landed itself as one of the best ten climbing walls in the world – but we won't be climbing any walls, only trekking to a viewpoint on the 1830 meter tall mountain.

It is also possible to go hiking on your own around camp. Beautiful landscapes of tundra, mountains and many more wonders of the Arctic are to be explored.

We leave Tasermiut Fjord and travel to Nanortalik by boat. Travelling through Tasermiut once again, won’t disappoint as the diverging climates of the fjord never stop to amaze.

In Nanortalik, the day is at your leisure. Settle into your hostel, take a shower and rest a bit, before heading out to explore Nanortalik town. The town is Greenland’s southernmost town and is populated by approx. 2300 people. While strolling through town we recommend that you visit the Museum of Inuit Culture and Tradition, as it is said to be one of Greenland’s most interesting museums.

Night in hostel.

We continue our journey back to Erik The Red’s Fjord. En route, we will stop by the village Alluitsup Paa, that we passed on our way to Uunartoq.

By the afternoon we expect to arrive in Qaqortoq, which is acknowledged to be one of Greenland’s most charming towns – the towns colourful houses are beautifully scattered across a green hill landscape.

The afternoon is at your leisure – explore the town on your own, there are plenty of opportunities for cultural experiences. Visit the local museum and church, follow the stone carvings around town and stop by a shop that sells locally sourced products.

Nights spend in hostel.

On your 12^th day in South Greenland, you will be walking in the footsteps of the Norse Vikings by visiting the settlements Igaliku and Qassiarsuk. Furthermore, will you have the opportunity to visit the Qooroq Glacier.

We will be dropped off in an area called Itilleq in Erik The Red’s Fjord, from where we will hike along the King’s Road to Igaliku. It’s an easily conquered hike.

Igaliku is renowned as Greenland’s most beautiful settlement, as the small village is surrounded by green hills, vegetated landscapes and towering mountains with snow resting on the tins- a scenery resembling a beautiful painting. In the settlement, you can chitchat with the locals, explore the ruins of Norse Vikings cathedral, Gardar, or rent a kayak and paddle around the settlements bay.

In the afternoon, we head back to Itilleq and transfer by boat to Qassiarsuk. En route, we will stop by Qooroq Fjord to visit one of South Greenland’s most active glaciers – if the ice conditions allow us to travel furth into the fjord. Navigating in these waters is almost impossible, as the density of ice is high. But nevertheless, it is a breathtaking and inspiring journey to navigate through the icy waters, with icebergs as far as the eye can see.

Arriving in Qassiarsuk you will have the chance to walk around the spectacular surroundings. Qassiarsuk is listed as one of the UNESCO world heritages, due to its impressive history as the Norse Vikings capital and its spectacular beauty.

Night is spent at Leif Eriksson Hostel in Qassiarsuk.

By boat, we will travel across the fjord from Qassiarsuk to Narsarsuaq. In Narsarsuaq we will by car drive to Flower Valley – one of Greenland’s most renowned areas to hike. Our journey through flower valley takes us to a viewpoint from where we can gaze over the Kiattut glacier, the Greenland Ice Sheet and nunataks peaking up through the ice.

We travel back to Qassiarsuk. By nighttime, we bid you farewell with a dinner consisting of local commodities and meat, such as fish, whale, seal, caribou etc.

Transfer by boat to Narsarsuaq. If we have time before you leave with your flight to either Copenhagen or Keflavik, we will stop by the Bluie West One museum – an abandoned US military Base from the Second World War.
