Qoornoq Island Adventure | Nuuk

Join this adventure to the abandoned settlement Qoornoq. Get to enjoy the fresh breeze on the deck as you gaze upon the water and sky-high mountains.

If you are lucky you might even be accompanied by the gentle giants of the sea, the most commonly seen around Nuuk, the humpback whale. Curious creatures and playful in-between the waves.

On the way into the deep veins of Nuuk's complicated fjord system, we will pass the iconic Sermitsiaq Mountain, which from the leftover snow from winter creates a beautiful waterfall down the mountainside. Arriving at Qoornoq, we will be met by a peaceful atmosphere surrounded by a stunning landscape. The island is also called 'Bjørneøen' which means Bear Island, as it resembles a polar bear when seen from above.

Back in the day you always had to be prepared in the case of a polar bear came to visit, these days, however, polar bears are rarely seen around the area. After a walk between the few houses and surrounding tundra, we will continue our journey to the other side of the island.

This is where we will be met by a breathtaking waterfall, where we will stay and listen to the sound of the running water and enjoy the stunning view of the fjord. We will then head towards some old Norse ruins where you will be told about the living conditions thousands of years ago. Join this marvellous journey through the complex fjord system around Nuuk.
