Get a taste of Greenland with this extraordinary small settlement experience, departing from Ilulissat. This tour is the perfect introduction to Greenland’s food culture, as well as the gifts that Greenlandic nature has to offer.

This tour takes you out of town, to the small settlement of Oqaatsut. Oqaatsut is located around 20 kilometers north of Ilulissat, approximately a 30-minute boat trip. Upon arrival in Oqaatsut, we will do a guided settlement tour. Oqaatsut was originally called ‘Rodebay’, named after dutch whalers, who established the small settlement as a trading station in the 18th century.

After a guided tour of the settlement, you will have some free time to explore on your own.

After exploring Oqaatsut we will visit H8 restaurant where you will enjoy a 3-course dinner with a view of the bay. The food is made from local ingredients which helps you to find the taste of Greenland.

The Greenlandic people have always lived in coherence with nature, and have always been dependent on nature’s gifts, such as fish, caribou, berries, Arctic thyme, Arctic Angelica, Qajaasat (Labrador Tea), mushrooms, harebell, etc. Oqaatsut is surrounded by endless miles of Arctic tundra and sea, with perfect conditions for Greenlandic herbs to grow undisturbed by pollution and Greenlandic wildlife to flourish.

After dinner, we will jump back in the boat and head back to Ilulissat!

Do not hesitate to book this extraordinary dining experience, as you will get to spend a full day in nature, eating delicious food, and immerse yourself in Greenlandic culture and history. Check the booking availability by pressing Book Now above.

Great tour in a real Greenlandic smalltown. Guide is very relaxed. The dinner was truly top notch. Can easily compete with top restaurants in Amsterdam or Copenhagen. Mostly local ingredients. Served by wonderfull host Karen. Thanks!

An excellent insider’s view into a remote settlement. Entry into church and detailed curation about lifestyle and practices of inhabitants in Oqaatsut were rich with details and meaning. The food was more than adequate and the guide’s kindness in serving me hot lemon juice (in view of my wet nose!) was such a delight. It will be good to state clearly that the meal would only be a single course.

Had a great time on the tour!
We got transfer with closed boat, comfortable and warm even it was minus degrees outside.
Settlement was really cozy and beautiful, we talk small walk and in the end enjoyed nice lunch!
