See the Greenland Ice Sheet by joining this full-day tour departing from Ilulissat, Disko Bay. This trip is one for the bucket list: you will be gazing over the massive ice cap, while standing in the Greenlandic nature, only surrounded by tundra, fjord, and ice.
The Greenland Ice Cap covers 80 percent of the country’s surface. Despite the ice caps extensive coverage, it is only accessible from a few places. For this reason, we have tailormade this tour for viewing the incredible natural phenomenon.
Combining sailing and hiking in the Disko bay regions brings you to the Greenland Ice Sheet!
We will meet you in the city center to get ready! From here we set out to sea for about 1,5-2 hours, before arriving in Paakitsoq Fjord. You will be sailing through the fjord’s narrow passages, arriving at the glacier tongue that flows down to sea level.
In the company of an educated guide, you go to shore and start your 5-hour hike. The first part of the hike goes uphill on uneven terrain - a demanding but rewarding challenge. Conquering the uphill hike rewards, you with a panoramic view of the Greenland Ice Sheet with its seracs and moraines, as well as the surrounding fjord system. The water of the fjord is a milky blue color, from all the silt originating from the glacier tongue.
We enjoy our lunch and return to the boat for the transfer back to Ilulissat.
