Join us for a fantastic 7-hour fjord adventure. We depart from the Tidal Stairs in Nuuk and cruise deep into the magical Nuuk Fjord, navigating through a breathtaking landscape. Along the way, we will pass the iconic Sermitsiaq mountain and picturesque icebergs.

When we step ashore on the island of Uummannaq, we step straight into history. Believe it or not, this surrounding area was once a bustling hub, home to as many as 2,000 people at its peak—making it a vibrant historical center of Greenland. The region has been settled several times over the centuries by both the local Inuit and later by European missionaries.

Together with your guide, you will explore the fascinating traces left behind on the island, looking closer at the historic settlement where the Moravian Brethren established their mission station. We will wander among the old turf ruins near the shore, visit the old schoolhouse built from local stone, step inside the beautifully restored church, and visit the historic, atmospheric graveyard.

Next, we lace up our hiking boots for an optional scenic 500-meter walk (with 100 meters of elevation gain). We will head up through the terrain to an ancient, protected soapstone quarry. This site was vital for the survival of the Inuit, who spent centuries mining this versatile stone. Here, you can clearly see the historical marks left from mining traditional lamps (qulliit) and cooking pots directly from the rock, all while enjoying a truly fabulous panoramic view of the fjord.

Before heading home, we take time to experience the Arctic nature up close. We will gather wild herbs, including local Labrador tea (qajaasat). Guided by your expert, you can smell and taste the leaves on the spot and bring your collection home to add an authentic flavor of Greenland to your own cooking.

Our tours are led by skilled, passionate guides with a deep knowledge of Greenlandic nature, culture, and history. Whether sharing ancient myths, pointing out local plants, or uncovering the secrets of the fjord, they bring the landscape to life with incredible stories of the local heritage.

From the unique history and stunning landscape to the expert local storytelling, choosing this exceptional tour guarantees an unforgettable highlight of your trip.
