Icefishing and Restaurant H8 in Oqaatsut | Disko Bay

Do you want to spend a day in a small settlement in Greenland and learn more about the local way of living? Join one of the most amazing experiences full of adventures from sailing and fishing to relaxing at the local restaurant with warm food.

The journey across the ocean full of drifting icebergs starts with a sailing tour from Ilulissat harbor to Oqaatsut which is situated 20 km north of Ilulissat - and only 30 people live here!

Upon reaching the frozen bay, the boat will be docked aside and you will experience a fun walk over the ice approaching the H8 restaurant where you will receive a warm welcome from the hosts. You might fear walking on ice, but the host will assure your safety and assist you to the settlement.

To have an authentic experience, you will be dressed in warm bodysuits - just like the Greenlandic fishermen. Your hosts will accompany you to good fishing spots, where you will drill holes in the ice. Please note it can get chilly out there, so you need to carry warm clothes with you.

You will be together with the Greenlandic fishermen for around an hour. Afterwards, your guide will help you reach the settlement where you will get cozy and enjoy an amazing view over the bay.

There will also be time to wander and explore if you might like to visit some great viewpoints or see the small church or the local grocery store.

We have well-planned cuisines to offer you on the trip: If you are departing in the morning, the host will be ready with a nice lunch in the warm and cozy restaurant. If your departure is in the evening, it will be dinner.

The food will be inspired by the Greenlandic kitchen and is made from local fish and meat. After lunch or dinner, we will head back to Ilulissat by boat.

Additional Information

• Although this adventure takes place on a closed boat, you will be spending time out on the decks to fish and for the best views of the fjord. Make sure you dress appropriately and, regardless of the weather, it is always a good idea to bring a windproof jacket and gloves.
• This tour has a minimum requirement of 2 passengers. If we do not reach this number of people on the day of your tour, we will cancel the tour and refund the paid price.

Package tours can be sold out more than half a year in advance (note that Guide to Greenland does not include international flights in packages, except where indicated from Iceland or Denmark).

Day trips may sell out closer to your arrival date, but for popular destinations, certain dates/times can also sell out months in advance. We recommend that you secure all of your experiences by booking them well in advance of your trip.
