Learn to ride a Snowmobile | Sisimiut
Never driven a snowmobile before? This is the perfect tour if you want to try driving a snowmobile yourself. Traveling with snowmobile is a fun way to travel in the snow covered winter landscape. You get around fast and easily and can see and experience a lot in a short time. If you like a little speed and getting an adrenaline kick, snowmobiling is the answer. If you just want to get out of the town and see some beautiful sights, snowmobiling at a slower pace is ideal.
This tour is perfect for beginners and people not familiar with snowmobiling. With a skilled instructor, you will get a good introduction to how the snowmobile works and moves. With this tour you start out at a slow pace, so you can get familiar with the machine, learn the basic driving skills and get comfortable before you go further. You will start out with taking some rounds on a training track. After this, you are ready to take to the groomed trails to take in the amazing sights of the beautiful landscape that you will whizz through.
Now that you are comfortable with the machine, we will venture further into the backcountry, experiencing several slopes, climbs and descents, giving a thrilling sense of freedom. Eventually, we will reach a stop where you can enjoy a hot drink and a snack, and an amazing view of the David Strait. You can use this opportunity to capture the moment and take some cool photographs with your snowmobile.
When you have completed the tour, you will receive a certificate for the completed training.
Whenever you go on a snowmobile ride there are certain rules regarding safety, it is important to respect these at all times. You have to listen and pay attention to what the instructor says and everyone going on the tour has to wear a helmet at all times, both as driver and passenger. If the instructor estimates that you are not driving safely, he can expel you from the tour. You should always keep a safe distance to the snowmobile in front of you and never stop in the middle of the track or 'gun' the throttle. If anything happens to the snowmobile you are in charge of covering the expenses for reparation. Everyone should have fun while driving safely and responsibly!Ready to experience the fastest mode of winter transportation in Greenland? What to bring
- Warm winter wear. Ideally, you should dress in layers: at least one thermal underwear layer (top and bottom), activity layer (e.g. hiking pants and shirt), and insulation layer (e.g. fleece or down jacket). The outer layer must be proper winter gear which typically has lots of insulation and is windproof. Think ski jacket and pants if you come from a warmer climate.
- Warm hat, thick windproof gloves, buff or scarf
- Insulated winter boots
- Sunglasses and sunscreen - snow is very bright and even the winter sun can cause sunburn
- Camera with extra batteries (the cold drains the batteries faster)
- Day pack
- Water bottle
- This tour is weather dependent and there might be changes due to weather.
