Ride Snowmobile & Dog Sled and visit UNESCO Heritage Site | Ilulissat

Experience a full day of Arctic life in the magnificent UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ilulissat Icefjord, where snowmobiling and dog sledding take you into the heart of Greenland’s natural wonders.

The tour:

Journey to the Icefjord with snowmobile: We start with a thrilling 45-minute snowmobile ride covering 25 km from Ilulissat to the sea ice at Ilulissat Icefjord. Guests have the option to drive the snowmobiles themselves (two per snowmobile) with prior notice, adding a personal touch to the experience.

From Motors to Paws: At the fisherman’s/hunter’s cabin, we park the snowmobiles and switch to dog sleds for the next part of the journey. The switch is necessary as from this point you will enter the UNESCO area where snowmobiles are not allowed to drive!

Dogsledge ride, led by a team of 10-15 dogs, takes you deeper into the fjord, where you will pass by towering icebergs locked in the frozen landscape. Riding with dogs on the sea ice could be from 30 minutes to 1,5 hours depending on where the fisherman spots are at the time and how many icebergs are stuck in the sea ice we need to go around.

As we continue, you will get a glimpse of local fishermen at work in this breathtaking setting. It is very important part of Greenlandic culture and has been a means of survival for a long time.

Return Journey: After some time taking in the breathtaking surroundings, we head back on the dog sleds to the cabin. There, we take care of the dogs before hopping on the snowmobiles for the ride back to Ilulissat.

We provide everything needed to ensure you stay warm and comfortable. For extra warmth, we offer:

• Sorel boots in various sizes for sturdy, warm footing.
• Kansas overalls and Napapijri anoraks are available in different sizes to keep you snug.
• Seal skin gloves for unmatched warmth and protection.
• Snowmobile helmets, as safety is our top priority and a strict rule we follow.

Dog sledding is not recommended for people having back problems and pregnant women.

Please note this tour is highly weather-dependent. If the tour is canceled we will try to reschedule if it is not possible you will get a refund.

Package tours can be sold out more than half a year in advance (note that Guide to Greenland does not include international flights in packages, except where indicated from Iceland or Denmark).

Day trips may sell out closer to your arrival date, but for popular destinations, certain dates/times can also sell out months in advance. We recommend that you secure all of your experiences by booking them well in advance of your trip.
