The first time I saw a seal resting on an Iceberg

During the summer of 2019, I went on a holiday, sailing from Nuuk to South Greenland to visit family and friends all over South Greenland.

We had almost reached Qaqortoq, a trip that took us about 14 hours, when my father, with his eagle eyes, spotted a small dot on a floating iceberg.

We came closer and lo and behold, a cute little seal was napping with a flock of seagulls!

This was an absolutely magical moment during sunset! I’ve lived in Greenland most of my life and yet I’ve never had the privilege of seeing this cute little situation until now.

As you might imagine, I took a bunch of photos with my Fujifilm XT-2 with a 55-200 mm lens on. So I thought I would share some of my favorites.

As we got closer the birds flew off and the seal started to keep a good eye on us, and when we eventually got too close it scurried back down into the deep ocean.

I certainly hope this isn’t the last time I see this. I guess I have to come to South Greenland more often!

Or maybe go on some more sea safaris like these.

Have you ever seen something like this? Do let me know!
