Sunset hike to the top of Lille Malene – Nuuk

One evening in June, my friend Inesa and I decided to go for a hike to the top of the mountain Quassussuaq also known as Lille Malene.
The mountain is about 465 meters tall, and you can just follow the ski lift to the top of the mountain.
It is a fairly steep hike, which will give your glutes and thighs a good workout but it’s not very far either. So it took us about an hour and 20 minutes to find a good spot with a great view.
We eventually settled upon a viewpoint with a bit of cover, as there was a slightly chilly wind. I brought my new camping stove which I had been wanting to test for a while, and we boiled some water for hot chocolate.
There’s nothing better than a cup of hot chocolate and some banana cake at the top of a mountain!
Nuuk I would say is renowned for incredible sunsets, and in the middle of summer it juuust barely goes below the horizon, keeping this wonderful glow all night long.
After it went below the horizon, we decided to head back down, but that’s when the fog started rolling in.
We didn’t have any issues coming down since we could still clearly follow the ski lift down to where we parked the car. But it was now the perfect conditions and I was able to snap one of my favorite photos ever, of my good friend Inesa.
All I can say is, that way more often than not, it’s worth to go for a little sunset hike, especially in Nuuk.
