Stand Up Paddleboarding amongst the Icebergs | Nuuk | West Greenland

Travel the length of the spectacular Nuuk Fjord for a unique experience of stand up paddleboarding (SUP) amongst thousands of icebergs. No previous experience necessary! Our journey begins with us sailing as far as possible up the world’s second-largest fjord system - the Nuuk Fjord. Although we travel in a closed and heated boat, you will want to dress warmly so that you can spend as much time as possible out on deck for the best views of the spectacular, steep mountains that line our route. It will take us about 2-3 hours to reach the Icefjord where thousands of icebergs are cast off from several glaciers to begin their journey to the ocean. Here we will gear up with drysuits, life jackets and communication gear to ensure everyone is warm and safe, and give an introduction to paddleboarding for those who are new to the experience. Once on the boards, we will paddle between the icebergs for around 2 hours, exploring this surreal watery landscape choked with floating ice. The silence of the area is broken only by the sounds of us paddling and the cracking of the ice surrounding us - a welcome respite from the busy lives most of us lead. If you fall off your board - no worries! You’ve just added a “polar plunge” to the experiences you’ve ticked off in Greenland! Your drysuit will keep you warm and dry, and the board is easy to get back onto. The boat crew also stays very close to help you if needed. Reserve your place on this unique stand up paddleboarding experience by selecting your date of travel and clicking on Book Now. Note: there is no age minimum. However, participants must be taller than 125cm due to the sizes of drysuits available. It is not possible to do this excursion without a drysuit.

Hiking, Kayaking & Camping | Musk Ox Lake | Kangerlussuaq

Get face to face with one of Greenland's big mammals - the musk ox. Join on this ultimate wildlife experience and get close to musk oxen while kayaking on a big lake.  Camp Musk Ox Lake offers a true wilderness experience, you will be hiking, kayaking, and camping far away from the civilisation, in this place that can only be reached by foot. During the two days of the camp we will be paddling and look out for opportunities to get close to the musk ox. The musk oxen often do not see the kayaker as a threat and we might get as close as 10 meters from the animals without them fleeing. A thrill of a lifetime!   This area is the territory of the musk ox and people rarely visit. Here the wildlife has perfect conditions with dry South facing slopes, a windy highland plateau for hot days and wet fertile meadows in close vicinity. In order to make the most of the trip we also go ashore from the lake, to hike to hilltops, so we truly can see the greatness of the country - from there you will be able to see the vast Ice Cap, mountains, valleys, rivers, and wildlife nearby the river delta. We try our hardest to protect our beautiful environment, therefore we always eat as locally as possible. The meals of the trip will therefore in a great extent be based on locally hunted meat from musk ox, caribou, snow hare, and maybe fish - that we usually supply with whatever wild herbs or mushrooms we can harvest in the nature.   Pack your hiking boots and join on this wildlife adventure in Kangerlussuaq. Frequently Asked Questions

About kayaking tours

1. Do I need kayaking experience to go on a tour?

There kayaking tours for all levels, and some easy tours do not need past experience. With a professional guide, stable type of kayak, and a location with calm water conditions, is it safe for everyone. That said, it would be more enjoyable if you try out kayaking close to your home for a day or two, before you come to Greenland. Then you can use your time in Greenland to enjoy the landscape and shape of icebergs, rather than concentrate on learning how to paddle.

2. Can I touch icebergs from the kayak?

An iceberg can roll over any time. Remember that only 10% of the iceberg is showing above the water, so give big icebergs a wide berth. But if an iceberg has cracked recently, there will be small pieces that you can paddle up to. They also get stranded on beaches with the movement of the tide.

3. Can I paddle a Greenlandic kayak?

The kayaks used for tours are stable and modern seakayaks. The Greenland kayak is a hunting vessel made for speed and silence, and not suitable for touring. If you’re an experienced kayaker, try visiting the local kayak club. You’ll really enjoy that.
