Singer Rasmus Lyberth has never been as happy as he is now both with his private life and his music. Strangely enough, Rasmus Lyberth considers his newly released CD to be his test piece. His many fans probably think this is something he accomplished a long time ago.
Perhaps with the previous album »Asanaqigavit«, in English »With Love«, for which he received two Danish Music Awards in 2007. Perhaps it is because of his many concerts over the past years, which have been so full of love and vitality.
Peace
It is his opinion, that these new songs are the first step towards something big. With all the success Rasmus Lyberth has had these years, he really has every reason to believe in himself. He is a happy man with a surplus on all accounts.
– I have found peace, he says and really looks like the happy man we are used to seeing, although this has not always been the whole truth.
The sixties
He made the new album with the Greenlandic recording company Atlantic Music. His wish for the future is to show the world what he can do and he is convinced it will be something very special.
– I am going to work towards being a member of the »elite« until I’m sixty. By then, it will be okay to move down to the first division again, he says laughing.
Heart in both places
Rasmus Lyberth lives in Denmark and has his own little studio and a small workshop in the garden, where he makes soapstone figurines.
– Greenland is in my heart, and you can’t ask for more. It’s a good form of self-awareness, keeping what you are fond of in your heart. It’s never far away then.
– I can always go back and say hello to nature. You can see a long way in Greenland, says Rasmus thoughtfully.
Universal Language
– I believe that my songs have got better over the years. Perhaps my craftsmanship has improved. I also write with greater ease and probably with more humility.
He will continue to sing in Greenlandic. It is the language where he best uses his beautiful, powerful, and very unique voice. The language transcends all boundaries and it is fascinating, even to people who can’t understand the words.
– The Greenlandic songs are like a universal language, he says.
Stage fright
Music has filled his life for many years, but suddenly he developed intense stage fright. He decided to take a long break – but first after making the film »Lysets Hjerte« (Heart of Light) in 1998.
It was a huge success, not least with Rasmus Lyberth in the lead role.
A break
I had been travelling constantly since I was 16 – now I wanted to have some time to myself and try to stay at home for a whole year. I realized that every time I was about to succeed with something, I had walked away and I had to build myself up again every time.«
A happy man
– I am married to a smart woman, and It is different being a father to a teenager now,« he says. He also has three grown children from his first marriage, who do very well.
– I am a very happy man, he concludes.
