Hunting Northern Lights with Snowmobile | Ilulissat

Go deep into the Arctic Night far from the city’s light pollution with snowmobiles and hunt the incredible phenomenon of Northern Lights in the snow-covered mountains.  This tour will follow the dogsled path into the mountains, here, without external light sources, the darkness really envelops you and the stars become much clearer. We will drive around for a bit, until we find a nice stop where we can enjoy the night sky, perhaps with a cup of warm coffee.  Northern lights carry many local tales with them, other Arctic Destinations have stories of dragons and firefoxes, but to us Inuit, they are ancestors running wild across the nightsky playing a game reminiscent of football. As kids, we were told never to whistle at the northern lights, for they would then come down, cut off our heads and play football with them. The morale was probably to get the kids to go home when darkness ensued, but we will muster some bravery and go chase the lights! Please be aware that we can never guarantee to see the northern lights, some nights we are lucky, some nights we are not. However, venturing out on snowmobiles deep into the cold Arctic night is an experience in itself, and we will, without a doubt have some fun.If the sky gets too cloudy we will do our best to re-schedule, if the tour is cancelled we will refund the full amount back to you.So if this sounds like just the tour for you, then go ahead and click on ‘Choose a date’ and find a day(night) that suits you!

Northern lights hike | Uummannaq

Go on a northern lights hike and experience the magic of the night and the waving lights. This tour is for everyone who wishes to see the lights and learn more about them. We will tell you all about the lights in both a scientific and cultural perspective, giving you a better understanding of the beauty which fills the polar nights. The winter can be long and dark, but luckily in Uummannaq, the night sky often shares its beauty with Aurora Borealis, otherwise known as northern lights. It is nothing short of a sublime experience when the lights show under a dark starry night with varying colours and strength. The local Inuit have several stories and explanations connected to the lights, one of which tells us that it is our ancestors playing a type of football with a walrus skull with such a powerful force that they emit light. In these modern times, the northern lights are not only a phenomenon in the sky but also a key ingredient in Greenlandic Coffee. Greenlandic coffee is like Irish coffee full of alcohol which will warm up your very soul on a cold evening. The same goes with the love story that comes with the making of Greenlandic coffee. We will start the hike by the lake, getting away from the citys’ lightpollution, out here we’ll go in depth about this natural phenomenon, including why you shouldn’t whistle after the lights. It is a cold pleasure to be outside in the polar nights which is why we will bring hot coffee and tea as well as make Greenlandic coffee for those who wish to taste it (highly recommended). The whole tour takes around 3 hours, so there is plenty of time for talking, hiking, telling stories, admiring and taking photos of the northern lights. It can be difficult to capture the lights with a camera but the guide can help advise with settings so you can immortalize this night.

Dog sledding expedition | Kangerlussuaq to Sisimiut | West Greenland

This tour is an exciting adventure through the wilderness of Greenland, and with the harsh conditions of winter it is not for the faint of heart. This experience is a true expedition type, and what you'll get out of it, is well worth the money and effort. You will be traveling cross-country over the ice and mountains, with skilled and knowledgeable guides who will teach you what to do while traveling with dog sled. You will get to know the Greenlandic dogs and understand how strong and useful they are as you test your limits, spending nights in remote hunting cabins and in tents. This experience will completely change your mind of how man and animal can work harmoniously together through the harsh environment. You will quickly become an important member of the team, helping out with food preparation, dog feeding and packing down the camp to fit on the sled. This trip is a challenge and is therefore not recommended for anyone with health issues or a bad back. During this trip you will go into unpredictable snow conditions, ascending and descending hills and mountains far below freezing temperatures. It is obligatory to rent adequate polar clothing and boots unless you have your own, which in our experience is rare, the staff will determine whether or not yours are suitable to ensure your comfort and safety. The tour is normally from Kangerlussuaq to Sisimiut, but if you'd prefer to start from Sisimiut then please contact us.
