This tour is perfect for those who would like to experience the Arctic landscape of Nuuk Fjord and learn about Greenlandic history, from the Norse-Vikings to late colonial history. Qoornoq is an abandoned fishing village, deep within Nuuk fjord. The inhabitants of the settlement were forcibly removed from the village in 1972,  and today the area is used for recreational purposes. In the settlement, you can experience the modest living conditions of 1900, old drying racks and archaeological remains of the Norse-Vikings and the Inuit Saqqaq culture.  By the colonial harbour in Nuuk, you will be welcomed on board by our experienced captain. Once you have been seated in our closed cabin boat, the captain will set the course North of Nuuk.  En route, enjoy the fresh breeze on the deck and fjord landscapes. If you are lucky you might even be accompanied by the fjords summer visitor:  the humpback whale. In Qoornoq, the captain will anchor the boat, and bring you ashore. First, you will be exploring the colourful houses on the peninsula, that tells stories of modest living conditions of mid-1900. It is also possible to visit the old fishing factory. After having explored the houses, we will head across the island, to gaze upon the vast Qoornoq waterfall. All year-round, the waterfall is breathtaking - in summer you can enjoy the sight and sound of the running water, and in winter, natures art of icicles. The last attraction of the day brings you to the old Norse-Viking ruins, where the captain will tell you about life on the Island a thousand years ago. It is also possible to enjoy the sight of icebergs, as the abandoned settlement is not far from Nuuk Icefjord. If wind and weather allow, we might stop by the meltwater waterfall of Mount. Sermitsiaq.   Join this marvellous journey through the complex fjord system around Nuuk.
