Frequently Asked Questions

About Boat Charter Tours

1. What is the difference between a boat tour and a boat charter tour?

On a boat tour you will be together with other travelers and there will be a sailing plan, whereas a boat charter means that you have the whole boat to yourself, and the skipper will make a plan together with you according to where you want to go or what you want to experience.

Remember that the skipper always makes the final decision, according to weather, tide and ice conditions. Weather in Greenland can change fast and can be harsh, and the locals know the weather signs of the area.

2. Can I charter a boat in the winter?

Yes, if the sea is navigable. In West Greenland, the area around Ilulissat and Disko Bay is the northernmost for sailing in the winter. Small boats are taken up to land in late autumn because of sea ice, and larger boats remain in the water as long as sailing is possible.

3. Can I charter a boat for several days and sail long distances?

Yes, it is possible if the boat is available and the plan is feasible.
